The Director of Construction is a key member of the Development & Construction team at Global Partners, taking a lead role in driving and delivering on Global Partners' growth plans. The Director of Construction is responsible for the team in charge of the day-to-day construction operations and for ensuring the successful delivery of each construction project. This person will work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing internal and external resources to achieve overall company and project deadlines / goals. Reports to the Vice President of Construction & Development.

We offer a flexible work environment. This means working up to 2 days a week remotely and the rest of the time in the office.

"Gauges" of Responsibility

  • Manages, mentors and oversees internal Construction and Project Manager(s) or any third-party Construction Manager(s)

  • Help to create new guidelines based on lessons learned and best practices

  • Provides constructability and budget reviews, site analysis and subject matter expertise in construction management

  • Jointly with the Director of Design and the Senior Director of Operations Development, ensures a design & construction project schedule is initiated, distributed to key stakeholders, and maintained throughout the project(s)

  • Is responsible for all aspects of construction projects from pre-construction to project close-out: directly or indirectly, manages the construction phase of the development process, manages project schedules, maintains, adjusts and updates project plans as needed

  • Ensures that projects stay within budget and schedule leading strategic initiatives to achieve such goal

  • Identifies and drives process and operational efficiencies

  • Jointly with the VP of Construction & Development, negotiates with vendors, suppliers and general contractors on cost, timeframes, and quality of work

  • Directly or indirectly manages vendors on projects from development and preconstruction onwards

  • Consolidates, communicates and manages all issues and risks affecting the project; communicates project status to project participants and stakeholders accurately and on time

  • Provides oversight of all necessary governmental approvals and permitting for construction projects, through certificate of occupancy

  • Ensures successful closeout with all project consultants, contractors and vendors, including final payments, releases, bonds, etc.

  • Provides the guidance, training and tools to the construction team to consistently perform construction activities; Conducts team meetings

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture or equivalent

  • 8+ years of construction management experience in retail, restaurant or hospitality

  • Previous experience managing large project budgets; strong finance skills

  • Exceptional project management and time-management skills

  • Excellent communication, motivation and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; able to recognize when to pivot vs holding steady

  • Experience with Procore, SmartSheets, or other facilitating software/programs

  • Travel regularly as needed, at least 3 days per week and occasionally for longer periods
