Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Oceanography, Fisheries Science, or related field. Experience operating and maintaining oceanographic equipment, precision electronic, electromechanical, or instrumentation systems. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with operating and maintaining oceanographic equipment. Experience with autonomous underwater vehicles. Programming experience in MATLAB and/or Python. Experience in downloading, processing, and quality controlling data. Experience working with large data bases such as NETCDF, ERDDAP or similar systems. Experience working on small boats.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Associate will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Jacqueline McSweeney and will participate in ongoing projects to monitor oceanographic conditions on the continental shelf, including areas of wind farm developments. This work will primarily involve use of Teledyne Webb Slocum ocean gliders that are equipped with a range of sensors and deployed for 4-8 month-long cruises in the Middle Atlantic Bight each year. Glider operations include: onshore routine maintenance, deployment preparation, launches and retrievals from small boats, piloting/monitoring while gliders are deployed, data downloading, processing, quality control, and archival, and data analysis. Complimentary observational work is also anticipated, requiring days-long boat trips on the shelf, organizational skills, and relevant on-site training (such as forklift operation).
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparation and programming of gliders.
- Launching and retrieving gliders, monitoring and controlling gliders while deployed.
- Data downloading, processing and performing quality control.
- Plan and conduct field studies.
- Lab management and training glider pilots.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
This position occasionally necessitates spending days-long trips at sea on a research vessel. Additionally, the work week will sometimes be shifted to include nights and/or weekends. Nontraditional work hours, dictated by the nature of the field work, is necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
