Position Summary

The Office of Education, Applied Cognition Medical Sciences Program (ACMSP) is seeking an individual who will help develop, services and programs that contribute to the academic success of medical students in all phases of the School of Medicine curriculum. The successful candidate will focus on helping students reach their goals of establishing a medical career and contribute to departmental programming that helps build connections and achieve success. This position will report to the Director of ACMSP.

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to the following:

* Conducts one-on-one meetings with students to provide diagnostics and support with learning and problem-solving problems.
* Assist and review student exams and work products. Help students analyze their performance, identify barriers to academic success, and develop strategies to optimize academic performance.
* Monitors student progress and prepares communications as required.
* Keep accurate, thorough, up-to-date, accessible records of student contacts, growth, and progress. Instructs seminars and provides individual counseling to students preparing for standardized exams such as USMLE Step I and II.
* Collaborates and builds rapport with university faculty, and staff that facilitates invites and deepens the development and use of the student support services available.
* Develops week-to-week support materials for students within each block of the curriculum.
* Provide some HR support as required for hiring peer tutors.
* Must be extremely disciplined and have a strong work ethic.

Finalists should be prepared to provide official educational transcripts if selected for hire.

The
University of New Mexico will reclassify all Grade 11 and 12 exempt positions
to non-exempt on January 1, 2025, to comply with FLSA regulations. Although this
position is currently listed as exempt, it will shift to
non-exempt as of that date.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Additional Requirements
Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required, depending on department needs.
