Position Highlights |
This position facilitates all aspects of the operation of Smartscape, a training program for landscape professionals. A basic training was developed and implemented in 1994, and since then the program has grown to offer additional advanced courses. Water efficiency in urban landscapes is increasingly a concern. It is critical that those in the landscape industry have access to affordable quality training to ensure they understand best management practices to implement in all activities, as they all impact water consumption. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Coordinate all aspects of the Smartscape training program, including: updating and facilitating existing courses and developing and facilitating new courses; working with instructors for each course or class; scheduling courses and instructors; producing all materials for courses (notebooks, handouts, etc.); recruiting Master Gardener volunteers to help with individual classes; and marketing of courses (flyers, booths at trade shows and conferences, social media, etc.)
- Petition for continued support from sponsors as needed, develop grant proposals/contracts for sponsors, submit interim and annual reports to sponsors, and provide program presentations to sponsors as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge, skills, and experience coordinating training programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals.
- Skill in public speaking and presenting information to large groups.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Biology or other related discipline, or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
