Responsible for supervising the grounds maintenance and care program for a large number of schools.
Essential Functions
- Oversees grounds maintenance activities including marking athletic fields, seeding and cleaning grounds, snow and ice removal, shrubbery and tree maintenance, grass cutting and blacktopping.
- Receives and reviews requests and complaints, and implements or recommends corrective actions.
- Initiates and maintains maintenance program for grass seeding and cutting, and shrubbery and tree pruning.
- Provides guidance and assistance to staff in performing special projects and other assignments.
- Inspects vehicles for maintenance needs and safety recommendations.
- Provides appropriate supervision, mentoring and professional growth and development opportunities to assigned staff. Such responsibility includes the development and implementation of professional growth plans to include keeping abreast of current developments, literature and technical sources of information.
- Plans and controls staff, and performs other human resources, finance and payroll related functions for assigned employees.
- Utilizes tact and exercises good judgment in interacting with general public, school and central office personnel.
- Evaluates the performance of contractors and assigned subordinate staff.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED
- Five years grounds maintenance experience, including one year supervisory responsibilities.
- Maryland Class C Noncommercial or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of grounds safety and preventive maintenance practices and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
