David Evans and Associates (DEA) is seeking a TransportationEngineer-in-Training (EIT) for our Portland, OR office. In this role, you will support a variety of projects within our Transit and Rail group, as well as road and highway projects within our Transportation Business Unit. This role offers opportunities to work collaboratively across offices through workshare programs, contributing to dynamic and engaging projects.

Responsibilities:

As an EIT, your role will be varied and engaging, including but not limited to:



  • Collaborating on all phases of projects: drafting, design, 3D visualizations, quality reviews, and cost estimating.
  • Performing design tasks on a wide range of transportation projects, including transit, multi-modal, complete streets, freeways, and highways.
  • Preparing and modifying construction documents, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and designs.
  • Analyzing maps, reports, drawings, as-builts, and test results for design projects.
  • Assisting with post-design construction support, responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, as-built preparation, and field observations.
  • Performing construction inspections on a project-specific basis.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines such as bridge design, water resources, traffic design, and surveying.
  • Assisting with utility coordination, including conflict analysis and working with public and private utility companies.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil3D.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Drafting and design experience with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, particularly in alignments and 3D design surfaces.
  • Experience working on transportation projects.
  • Construction experience.
  • 1+ years of experience designing transportation projects.

Potential salary range is $66,000-85,000 depending on location and experience
