Description and Requirements

Lenovo is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual for the role of Director, AI Governance to join our team and champion an AI Governance program designed to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI projects, tools, offerings and other AI-related initiatives across Lenovo. As a part of Lenovo's strategic goals, the AI Governance Program Leader will report into the Chief Security & AI Officer and play a critical role in developing the AI Governance Program strategy for the Lenovo Enterprise as well as implementing and enforcing the related policies that ensure the AI Systems we develop and/or deploy are fair, ethical, reliable, safe and transparent. The Leader will also be responsible, in collaboration with Lenovo's legal and government relations professionals, for staying abreast of rapidly evolving AI regulations and collaborating with internal teams across the organization to build trust and mitigate potential risks.

As a part of executing the AI Governance Program strategy, responsibilities will including managing AI governance initiatives collaborating with developers, IT teams, information and product security teams, the product diversity organization, and global legal and government relations teams in a highly matrixed engagement designed to build, enhance and continuously improve policies, procedures and controls that ensure compliance with program, regulatory and industry standards and requirements as they relate to the development, deployment and ongoing monitoring of responsible AI. Individuals will also have the opportunity to work with and influence a variety of WW stakeholders and leaders to drive transformational projects.

Job Responsibilities

AI Governance Leadership

  • Lead the development of a strategic plan for the Chief AI Office as it relates to AI Governance with key objectives and performance indicators.

  • In close collaboration with key functional and business stakeholders, develop and implement a comprehensive, efficient AI governance framework, including policies, procedures, standards and best practices suitable for a global technology company that is developing, integrating and deploying AI.

  • Provide leadership for the Lenovo AI Committee staffed with applicable subject matter experts that review and approve baseline responsible AI standards and review high risk AI initiatives to identify potential ethical, legal and reputational risks associated with AI use in line with Lenovo's overall risk appetite.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Privacy and Government Relations teams to stay up to date on latest AI regulations and collaborate with applicable business teams to operationalize existing or new requirements that ensures compliance.

Internal and External Thought Leadership

  • Collaborate with leaders and stakeholders across Lenovo to drive awareness of responsible AI principles and a culture of accountability across all phases of AI pathfinding, development, and implementation.

  • Participate with government relations, legal, PR, and investor relations in external communications to promote knowledge of Lenovo's leadership and strong culture of responsible AI among key external stakeholders.

  • Work with Lenovo developers, product managers, data scientists, etc as well as information and product security teams to integrate AI governance principles and standards into project development and deployment processes.

  • Build a comprehensive AI training program and, in collaboration with Lenovo's other training organizations and teams, conduct training and workshops to educate employees on Lenovo's AI governance policies and best practices.

Effective Operational and Matrix Direction

  • Establish efficient communications and operational interconnects with highly matrixed business and functional organizations.

  • Oversee ongoing risk evaluation as well as the continuous monitoring and compliance of AI policies and procedures to ensure compliance with established norms and legal regulations.

  • Oversee the identification and onboarding of appropriate AI Governance and repository tools for efficient and effective program execution.

  • Communicate complex AI governance issues clearly and concisely with internal stakeholders (both technical and non-technical audiences) and, in collaboration with Lenovo's Communications Team, help support development of external communications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT, cybersecurity, data governance, legal or related field

  • 15+ years of proven industry experience in developing and implementing policy frameworks, particularly in the technology or data protection realm.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of ethical considerations and potential risks associated with AI.

  • Familiarity with AI regulations, industry standards and compliance requirements (e.g. ISO 42001; OECD Principles on Artificial Intelligence, European Commission's Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, etc)

  • Experience managing complex projects which are often cross-functional while demonstrating exceptional business judgment, utilizing emotional intelligence and building relationships at all levels of the company.

  • Comfortable operating in a matrixed environment, managing both up and down.

  • Demonstrated aptitude and can quickly absorb the nuances of complex, interdependent situations.

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks independently.

  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Ability to seek to understand, solve conceptual problems, wrangle resources, and deliver results in challenging situations.

  • Strong communication skills as this role will require you to provide both written and verbal updates to executive leadership on trends, outcomes, and insights related to governance work

  • Strong sense of urgency balanced with patience and a sense of humor
