GENERAL SUMMARY The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine seek assistant or associate-level doctoral research scientists to work among a team of basic and translational cardiovascular researchers. The ideal candidate should have a track record of independent research or pathway to independence, and participation in collaborative projects in cardiovascular and heart failure translational research. The candidate should have experience in large and small animal models of disease and in the testing of new therapeutic drugs and possibly therapeutic devices using animal models of heart failure. The candidate must be familiar with applications to the NIH and is expected to submit research grant applications within 2 years of starting employment. The candidate will be responsible for the experimental planning, design and execution of their project and be willing to work closely with other members of the cardiovascular research community within HFH and the Cardiovascular Research Laboratories. The candidate must be able to display strong mentorship skills and excel at oral and written scientific communication. The candidate should be recognized for their technical and scientific leadership as demonstrated by their publication record in leading cardiovascular journals. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue their independent research goals with a team of physician and scientists, as well as collaborate as a co-investigator with established researchers. The candidate will develop his or her research program through a team-based approach working on multiple collaborative research proposals. QUALIFICATIONS To qualify for this position, individuals must have a PhD or equivalent degree, evidence of scholarly activity (publication of papers in peer-reviewed journals), strong writing skills and potential to be an independent and externally-funded investigator. Post-doctoral research experience (min. 2 years) is preferred. Staff scientists are expected to obtain NIH funding, publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, present at scientific meetings, participate in academic activities, (i.e. NIH study sections, editorial boards), and in HFHS research activities.
