Key Responsibilities

The Quality Engineer is a key figure in maintaining and enhancing the quality of products in a gear manufacturing environment. This role involves developing and implementing quality control systems to ensure product reliability and conformance to standards. Regular inspections and tests are conducted to verify that the products meet required specifications, including dimensional, material, and functional testing.

The Quality Engineer identifies opportunities for process improvements and collaborates with the Continuous Improvement Lead and Manufacturing Engineering to implement these improvements. They maintain accurate quality assurance documentation and ensure that all testing procedures and outcomes are properly recorded.

Working with suppliers and the corporate Supplier Quality Team, the Quality Engineer ensures the quality of raw materials and components. They also train production staff and Quality Technicians on quality control measures to improve product quality and minimize defects.

The Quality Engineer manages and dispositions non-conforming products. They address customer complaints and product issues, working closely with the customer service and engineering teams to resolve these issues and prevent their recurrence.

Upkeeping thee Management System in compliance with the ISO 9001 standard is an important part of the role.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Develops and implements quality control systems to ensure product reliability, conformance to standards, and compliance with established quality policies.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conducts regular inspections and tests of product being produced to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards. This includes dimensional, material, and functional testing.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality. Works closely together with the Continuous Improvement Lead and Manufacturing Engineering to achieve implementation of identified items.
  • Documentation: Maintains accurate quality assurance documentation. Ensures that all testing procedures and outcomes are properly recorded.
  • Supplier Quality: Works with suppliers and the corporate Supplier Quality Team, to ensure the quality of raw materials and components.
  • Training: Trains production staff and Quality Technicians on quality control measures to improve product quality and minimize defects.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Manages non-conforming products by identifying them, segregating them, and deciding their disposition.
  • Customer Support: Addresses customer complaints and product issues. Work closely with the customer service and engineering teams to resolve these issues and prevent their recurrence.
  • Compliance: Ensures compliance with local, state, national, and international standards and regulations related to gear manufacturing.
  • Auditing: Conducts internal audits in accordance with ISO 9001 to ensure adherence to quality standards and identifies areas for improvement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Materials Management/Purchasing.
  • ASQ certification or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma within 3 years.
