Research Support Specialist

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuroscience, or related field. One (1) year of full-time postgraduate research experience. Basic behavioral lab skills such handling mice/rats, as well as experiences in recording and analyzing ultrasonic vocalizations, breathing, grasping, and locomotion in mice/rats. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and/or using special methods for data collation and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in C, C++, and Java. Proficiency in Python programming. Experience in the use of western blotting techniques, including sample preparation, gel electrophoresis, and immunoblotting. Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, and cell culture.

Brief Description of Duties:
Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Shahriar SheikhBahaei in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior. The SheikhBahaei laboratory focuses on applying leading-edge multi-level approaches to understand astrocytic modulation of complex motor behaviors. The candidate will get exposure to cutting-edge in vivo methods including fiberphotometry and multichannel electrophysiology.

The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. The incumbent must possess the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities. The incumbent must also possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and they must be skilled at sharing ideas clearly, both in writing and through speech. The Research Support Specialist will be responsible for the following:

• Assisting in behavioral training and experiments.
• Assisting in optogenetic or imaging experiments.
• Histology and microscopy.
• Mouse colony maintenance (including genotyping etc.)
• Other duties as assigned.
