Who we are looking for:

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, we are currently searching for a Senior Plant Human Resources Manager to guide and manage the human resources function for our facilities located in Harvey, IL. This is a professional opportunity for a business minded, hands-on HR professional who has demonstrated they are able to execute projects, make an impact, and is a true change agent. The Senior Human Resources Manager will lead and execute talent acquisition, workforce planning, employee and labor relations, coaching and counseling of management team for the distribution center, manufacturing and metal processing plants with 600+ employees.

This individual will oversee recruitment and retention, onboarding, labor and employee relations, compliance, training, and compensation. Together with HR Generalists, this position is responsible for the development and administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for the unionized population, as well as administering corporate HR policies. This position has a strong relationship with the plant leadership teams and must be able to understand business issues and bring solutions that advance the greater interests of the business.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years of experience in human resources, including plant and labor relations experience. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Overseeing/providing precise execution of all Human Resources initiatives while acting as a catalyst of change where appropriate.
  • Collaborates with plant and functional leadership, as well as business unit leadership to get input on HR decisions and ensures delivery of high-quality HR processes for the three-shift operations.
  • Leads overall Human Resources service delivery to the business through the HR department while helping to shape the culture that facilitates and supports Atkore's goals and initiatives.
  • Manages the disciplinary and grievances procedures with in-depth knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Directs employment activities assuring the timely placement of qualified employees in salaried, hourly and temporary positions.
  • Leads talent management and performance management-related activities. Measures performance in various areas of human resources and works to root-cause and countermeasure on areas where needed.
  • Conducts research into personnel programs, policies and activities and employment law and recommends strategies, changes or innovations where appropriate.
  • Understands, interprets, follows and enforces all established policies, procedures and recognized practices.
  • Develops programs, policies, procedures and controls regarding employment and analyzes people-related metrics.
  • Analyzes training needs to design employee and leadership training and development, supervises new employee orientation.
  • Drives Engagement and Alignment (cultural) initiatives locally.
  • Ensures compliance with employment-related laws (EEO, OSHA, FLSA, ADAAA, FMLA, WARN, etc.).
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program; prepare EEO-1 report annually; maintains other records, such as reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Represents Company in all personnel hearings, investigations and related employment litigation. Maintains necessary records.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database, as well as updates job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
  • Administers wage and salary policies while ensuring competitive rates of pay and competitive benefits.
  • Involved with day-to-day employee and labor relations including interest-based problem solving, counseling and coaching, fact-finding, etc.
  • Provides support for other duties and projects either locally driven or from Corporate. May be assigned as a subject-matter expert/best practice lead on one or more human resources disciplines, company-wide.
  • Organizes and works independently on multiple assigned tasks/projects and completes assignments within specified deadlines.



What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7 years of relevant Human Resources experience, including experience in manufacturing environment and labor relations.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.
  • People-oriented and results-driven.
  • Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics.
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases.
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills.
  • Ability to confidently engages with business leaders, demonstrating ease in respectfully challenging perspectives when necessary to achieve optimal solutions for organizational success
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company; ability to get along well with a variety of personalities and individuals.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, time management, and organization.
  • Must be adaptable to changes in the work environment, comfortable with multiple competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events in a calm and logical manner.

Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore onboarding and immersion program, focusing on understanding Atkore's culture, the Atkore Business System, and building relationships across your client groups and the Atkore HR team.
  • Understand how your job impacts Atkore and how your objectives align with Atkore's strategic priorities.
  • Have a general understanding of the HRBP role at Atkore and be gradually delivering value to your client groups.



Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Be leading the full-cycle recruitment process for the openings in the groups you support through a new hires' onboarding and immersion experience.
  • Have established strong working relationships with the leadership team you support, built rapport with employees across your client group, and be seen as a valued peer across the S&I HR team.
  • Be familiar with all daily and other responsibilities of an HRBP at Atkore and performing with minimal oversight.



Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Have established a reputation for yourself as a reliable and indispensable member of the S&I HR team and top talent for Atkore.
  • Be relied on by your client groups as a value thought partner for all people-related issues.
  • Be sought-after across the broader HR team for your talent, work product, enthusiasm and reliability.
