Position Overview
Essential Job Duties |
The resident will be expected to participate in teaching of senior veterinary students on equine orthopedic surgery and sports medicine and rehabilitation rotations and in the equine lameness and imaging elective rotations, undertake clinical case care, equine emergency duties, and other assigned duties. The resident will work closely with the faculty in equine medicine, emergency and surgery, and under the supervision of the equine medicine, emergency and surgery/sports medicine faculty, of the Department of Clinical Sciences.
This is a three-year, 36-month appointment. The resident will receive 12 paid days of vacation (per year) to be taken before the end of the appointment. The resident's advisor is responsible for monitoring progress in the program. The resident will seek the approval of the program director before using his/her vacation leave.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the management of outpatients including lameness examinations, nerve and joint blocks, imaging, client communication and patient follow- up. Become proficient at diagnosing and treating lameness conditions including the use of regenerative therapies and advanced rehabilitation modalities and protocols. Become proficient in performing all standard
equine radiographic and sonographic examinations and interpreting
MRI and CT examinations. Ensure that patient visits, and client and
RDVM communications are coordinated, and that accurate patient discharge instructions are generated and dispatched as appropriate. |
Other Work/Responsibilities |
Attend and participate in equine house officer rounds. |

Required License or Certification |
Eligible for North Carolina Veterinary Licensure and/or faculty certificate under
the supervision of the
NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary
Hospital. Professional liability insurance is provided. |
