Description
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the development and execution (i.e., scope, schedule, budget, and staffing) of projects, as well as the development and improvement of engineering processes. This position is responsible for functional requirements of staffing (resource planning), recruiting, training, talent development, engagement, and retention of employees. The Engineering Manager proactively collaborates with functional and business leadership teams to support business and program requirements and demands. The role provides support for developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing processes and procedures to meet customer and quality requirements while meeting company goals and objectives. This includes driving continuous improvement efforts in various processes while focusing on safety, quality, and cost. The individual is considered a technical leader in support of manufacturing and supply chain and may be relied upon to drive resolution on production issues, addressing sustaining engineering efforts and leading value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) efforts. This includes component obsolescence, reliability testing, failure root cause analysis, and quality corrective actions. Essential Duties
- Manage, recruit, and develop a strong group of engineers as direct and indirect reports.
- Support writing general and detailed specifications (i.e., performance and testing specifications).
- Plan development activities and manage schedules to meet business needs.
- Provide technical assistance on a variety of engineering topics to cross functional teams such as product management, sourcing/procurement, and quality.
- Create and modify schematics, Gerber files, assemblies, and release into the document control system.
- Develop reliability test reports and coordinate testing with internal/external reliability test laboratories.
- Evaluate test reports and make go/no go recommendations.
- Effectively communicate (oral and written) with department managers, engineering, production, customers, vendors, and other departments.
- Support documentation efforts including maintaining engineering drawings, bill of materials, test reports, regulatory filings, assembly procedures and design validation plans.
- Identify, specify, and acquire appropriate equipment and essential assembly and test tools including automation of functional test or data collection for efficiency.
- Support new product development team as manufacturing expert to ensure the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) of new products through new process development or modification of existing processes to meet criteria of new product.
- Coordinate project requirements, communicate status, and monitor progress working with department engineers and operations leaders.
- Fabricate prototypes as requested with necessary materials as required.
- Lead troubleshooting, problem solving, failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action processes as required for production related issues as related to materials, processes, and equipment.
- Manage and coordinate multiple projects that run simultaneously.
- Collaborates on policies, procedures, and best practices with engineering discipline teams.
- Supports bid and proposal activities, including cost and schedule estimation.
- Supports the development of technology roadmap for new engineering designs.
- Defines, maintains, improves, and manages the local (Horseheads) engineering development processes.
- Manage 8-10 professional engineers and 2-3 engineering technicians.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data.
- Strong project management skills and process orientation.
- Broad tactical and strategic "bandwidth", i.e., the ability to successfully manage multiple and/or rapidly changing priorities.
- Good communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience in leading or participating VAVE activities is preferred.
- Possess a continuous process improvement mindset with the ability to effectively lead and manage change.
- Experience and comfort working with data from a variety of sources.
- Solid financial and statistics acumen is preferred.
- The ability to translate data into meaningful planning information for Finance, Sales and Operations teams.

Education & Experience Requirements
- 12+ years of experience with a BS, or 9+ years with a graduate degree.
- Minimum of BS in Engineering.
Salary Range 115k-130k
