Title: Refugee School Impact (RSI) Case Manager Reports To: Refugee School Impact (RSI) Coordinator Pay: $50,460 - $60,552 per annum - Full-time, exempt position Office Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours as needed.

Description YMCA International Services, a unique branch of the YMCA of Greater Houston, serves Houston's significant refugee and immigrant communities. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency. The Refugee School Impact Case Manager will be responsible for serving the refugee families participating in the RSI program. Duties /Responsibilities Responsibilities include:
- Fostering ties between the clients, YMCA, and community leaders
- Identifying outreach/recruiting opportunities and providing presentations to community groups
- Coaching clients one-on-one and in group settings
- Collaborating with other departments to recruit and manage referrals for refugee families
- Addressing academic and social challenges that prevent refugee students from realizing their maximum potential.
- Supporting refugee families by identifying and removing barriers to learning
- Addressing client's needs through referrals to other YMCA programs and intervention at the school.
- Supporting a direct line of communication between teachers and RSI staff when immediate intervention is required
- Facilitating dialogue between students, parents, teachers, and other school staff in order to strengthen communication and understanding between all parties
- Resolving any difficulties in the shortest time frame possible and to minimize and/or eliminate student absence from class
- Working closely with fellow RSI Case Managers to coordinate responsibilities and meet outcomes
- Using online databases daily to organize data
- Reporting suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Following mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements
- Meeting timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets
- Welcoming new refugees with occasional airport pick-ups and occasional food distribution
- Completing other duties as assigned
Outcomes The RSI Case Manager is responsible for the following:
- Serving 75 participants per year
- Documenting and reporting program participation in 75 applicant files
Requirements
- Degree in Education, Communication, History, or Social Sciences (or related field).
- Proven Research & Writing skills.
- Ability to create and manipulate documents and databases.
- Experience with international populations.
- English speaker with proficiency in an additional relevant refugee language (Arabic, Spanish, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Burmese) preferred.
- Texas Driver's License; clean driving record; own vehicle; and applicable auto insurance.
