One (1) full-time vacancy at our Milwaukee Campus, year-round.

The Manager of Multicultural Programs and Services at MATC is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for multicultural programs and international student services that support the academic, social, cultural, and emotional development of historically underrepresented and underserved student and international student populations. This position plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community that aligns with MATC's diversity, equity, and inclusion and global awareness goals. This role involves directing all aspects of the multicultural unit, focusing on cultural education, celebration, awareness, and engagement. The manager will also collaborate closely with campus units to ensure exceptional care in student referrals for individual support and services. The manager will also oversee work with the registrar's office related to appropriate recruitment and international student visa assessment.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Implementation: Designs and implements multicultural and/or international student programs and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Promotes the academic success of historically underrepresented students through distinctive programs and activities. Oversees and assists in the development of workshops, conferences, and campus/community partnerships addressing the retention of underrepresented students at MATC.

  • Student Support and Advocacy: Provides academic and personal support to students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Advocates for the needs and concerns of underrepresented student populations. Offers guidance and resources to help students navigate cultural challenges and adjustment issues. Facilitates conflict resolution and mediation in culturally sensitive situations. Provides regular communication with international students designated parents or family regarding matters of concern.
  • Community Outreach and Engagement: Builds and maintains relationships with diverse community organizations and leaders. Collaborates with local businesses, non-profits, and cultural groups to create opportunities for students. Represents the institution at community events and functions related to diversity, bilingualism, and multiculturalism. Develops and implements strategies to increase diverse student recruitment and retention. Serves as the primary representative of the office to the campus and community.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Contributes to the development and implementation of institutional policies related to diversity and inclusion. Ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., Title IX, ADA). Collaborates with other departments and system partners to integrate multicultural perspectives into institutional practice. Monitors and ensure compliance with program requirements and MATC's academic policies and regulations.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Develops and manages a high performing team of highly skilled and motivated staff focused on the delivery of quality and value-added services, and allocates cross-functional responsibilities and work processes. Responsibilities include hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and progressive discipline as needed.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develops and manages the budget for Multicultural and International Student Services. Seeks and applies for grants and additional funding opportunities to support multicultural initiatives. Allocates resources effectively to support various programs and services.
  • Assessment, Reporting, and Recordkeeping: Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of multicultural and international students programs and services. Collects and analyzes data on student participation, satisfaction, and outcomes. Prepares regular reports on the impact and achievements of Multicultural and International Student Services. Use assessment data to continuously improve programs and services. Coordinates with the advising and retention units to utilize EAB Navigate to monitor students' academic progress, maintain records of student contacts/engagement, and export reports. Develops strategies and methodologies to measures, monitors, and evaluates the effectiveness of programs and services, and assesses student needs and program outcomes. Guides qualitative and quantitative assessment for events and activities within the office.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators. Serve on relevant committees and task forces related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Develop and maintain effective communication channels with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Create, enhance, and sustain collaborative partnerships with key campus organizations and departments to maximize student co-curricular involvement and success. Create, develop, and lead a strategic communications and marketing plan for multicultural and bilingual programs and services, incorporating all student programmatic efforts from grassroots to social media; approve all departmental marketing print promotions and website updates.
  • Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning. Serves on campus and community committees to help further the mission of the Office of Multicultural and International Student Services.
  • Crisis Management and Support: Provides support and guidance during incidents of bias, discrimination, or cultural conflict. Collaborates with relevant departments to develop and implement response protocols for culturally sensitive situations. Offers counseling and resources to students affected by cultural or diversity-related issues.
  • Compliance: Assist in managing data to ensure compliance with federal regulations associated with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) including running reports from Colleague and other records keeping processes; process, monitor and take actions on alerts and assist in testing SEVIS, Multicultural and International Students Office, and Colleague upgrades and releases.
  • Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience related to the job description to include program development and oversight; and three (3) years of supervision experience is required.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in a related discipline plus multiple years of progressively responsible professional experience and/or any combination of higher education and/or equivalent experience as stated totaling ten (10) years.
  • Spanish and multilingual proficiency is preferred, would allow us to better serve our students.

Supplemental Information

Start Date:

This position supports the Multicultural Services in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Department and is available to start immediately.

Hours:

40 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday. Hours vary based on departmental needs. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary:

Salary is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity. Salary determination will be only based on years of credited experience that is listed on the job application, please include complete work history.
