Title: Assistant Superintendent

Job Summary

Assists activities of Project Superintendent to direct activities of workers and sub-contractors on projects conducting disaster recovery and debris removal.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Studies contracts to plan procedures - makes recommendations to Project Superintendent on start and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase.
  • Maintains schedules and site mapping based on Project Superintendent direction.
  • Facilitates procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Confers with and directs personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures on-site, and coordinating various phases to prevent delays.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within work force.
  • Confers with Project Management and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve problems and improve methods.
  • Inspects work as to adherence to contract terms and schedules.
  • Prepares or reviews daily reports on progress, materials/labor, debris hauled, used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Essential Qualifications



  • Enrolled as a Junior or Senior in Emergency Management Bachelor degree program.
  • 2 plus years' experience in a Superintendent or similar role in field/disaster recovery and/or construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Travel flexibility.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including, Excel, Word, and Access.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than indicated here.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
