What You'll Do

  • Create, troubleshoot, and optimize Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tool post processors
  • Create, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC machine tool virtual simulators and tooling
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for the Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) PCs and CNC machine tools
  • Commission new DNC PCs and CNC machine tool connectivity
  • Diagnose customer requests with the Numerical Control Management System (NCMS) and associated servers
  • Provide technical expertise for Smart Factory initiatives
  • Provide project support for existing/new CNC machine tools and machine retrofits
  • Perform continuous improvement efforts such as reducing defect rates, increasing first-pass yield, increasing process safety, and reducing process cycle time.
  • Create/Update Software Quality Assurance (SQA), Cybersecurity, and other miscellaneous documentation
  • Collaborate with Numerical Control programmers, shop floor machinists, system engineers, and maintenance related to CNC machine tools and the DNC network
  • Provide IS&S representation in Production Tier 1, 2, & 3 meetings
  • Maintain configuration and change management for DNC assets, post processors, simulators, etc.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline OR a Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
  • Eight or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, or Computer/Electrical/Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering
  • Working understanding of G-Code and M-Code
  • Working understanding of CNC machining methods
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Basic understanding of reading and writing code.
  • Basic Windows PC troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with ICAM Campost post processor development software suite
  • Experience with CGTech's Vericut machine tool simulation software
  • Experience with PTC's CREO CAD/CAM or SolidWorks product suite
  • Experience with Mastercam, Esprit, & GibbsCAM CAM product suites
  • Experience with APT (AUTOMACTICALLY PROGRAMMED TOOL) CAM programming language
  • Simulation / Modeling experience
  • Experience with Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing
  • Understanding of programming using macros and subprograms
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to perform manual G code programming edits to improve the process.
  • Experience with 5-axis (3+2 or continuous) CNC machines
  • Experience with Probing routines
  • Experience with lathes, mills, mill/turn, and wire EDM CNC machines
  • Experience with programming algorithms, data structures and logic
  • Experience writing scripts in PowerShell and Command Line
  • General understanding of TCP/IP Networking and Server infrastructure
  • Programming languages and frameworks (C#, HTML5, JavaScript, JQuery, React, TypeScript, Blazor, ASP.Net, ASP.Net, MVC, Entity Framework, WebAPI, Telerik)
  • Enterprise relational database management systems, such as Oracle or SQL Server, with experience in SQL and structured data formats like JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) and Extensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Oracle or other relational database management systems with experience in SQL and PL/SQL, Extensible Markup Language (XML), and structured data formats like JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
  • Integrated Development Environments such as Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code
  • Version control tool such as GIT, SVN, or other code repositories
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery with AzureDevOps

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
