Job Description

The Administrative Consultant (Co-design Lead) will report to the Director of Research Activities (Design & Development Lead) for the Midwest Region of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Research Security and Integrity Information Sharing Analysis Organizations (RSI-ISAO) program. The RSI-ISAO effort is led by the University of Washington and entitled, "The SECURE Center: Safeguarding the Entire Community in the U.S. Research Ecosystem." The SECURE Center is responsible for the co-creation and implementation of NSPM-33 - and related - research security framework development and best practices. The Consultant will utilize the codesign collaborative approach, working with regional research stakeholders (i.e. academic research institutions, independent research institutes, medical centers and institutes, private companies, and Federal Government research centers and laboratories that participate in research) to create solutions. The Consultant will act as the facilitator and guide the participants through the design process of the minimum viable product of the SECURE Center Shared Virtual Environment (SVE) - termed the Collaborative Research Security & Integrity National Environment (CORSINE). The Consultant shall evaluate the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) of the SVE - ensuring the product delivers business values that align with the mission and vision of the Secure Center.

Responsibilities

  1. Foster strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, ensuring their active participation and meaningful contribution throughout the design process. Gather, analyze, and synthesize user insights and feedback that inform the co-design process.
  2. Implement the SECURE Center's National co-creation strategy that aligns with the SECURE Center's mission and vision. Championing the co-design approach across the organization, advocating for user-centered, participatory, and collaborative design processes.
  3. Organize and lead co-design workshops, ideation sessions, and collaborative events involving internal teams and stakeholders. Creating an inclusive environment where all voices are heard, especially those of marginalized or underrepresented groups.
  4. Coordinate the Midwest specific iterative design cycle of the SECURE Center Shared Virtual Environment (SVE). Deploy and operationally evaluate SVE, including assessment of user engagement, adoption, training, requested repairs or modifications.
  5. Work with the Midwest Director of Research Activities and Midwest Senior Program Support Coordinator, ensuring that stakeholder needs, pain points, and desires are deeply understood and integrated into the design of SECURE software products and services.
  6. Work closely with SVE Technology leadership and other teams to translate co-design outcomes into actionable design specifications, prototypes, and final products.

Duties

  1. Implement the SECURE Center's National co-creation strategy that aligns with the SECURE Center's mission and vision.
  2. Use qualitative and quantitative data to synthesize design recommendations, guide decision-making, and validate design concepts.
  3. Communicate project status, insights, and outcomes to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Expectations

  1. Meet the code of conduct for co-creation, listening and developing together.
  2. Uphold a transparent and over communicative posture with team-members.
  3. Ensure problems are communicated quickly and transparently to Director and NSF SECURE Midwest Design & Development Lead, Associate Vice Chancellor Research Compliance and Integrity, Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in design, user experience, service design, or a related field, with a focus on co-design or participatory design methodologies.
  2. Proven experience leading co-design initiatives and facilitating workshops with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  3. Strong background in user research, human-centered design, and product development.
  4. Bachelor's degree in Design, User Experience, Service Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Social Sciences, Engineering, or a related field
Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated salary range between $67,000 and $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
