Staff Operations Officer SME

***This position requires an active TS/SCI clearance w/Counterintelligence or Lifestyle polygraph or be willing to take a polygraph exam***

Cherokee Preting is seeking a highly skilled Staff Operations Officer SME (SOO) with expertise in intelligence operations to join our dynamic team. As a primary liaison between the customer's Headquarters Staff and operational units, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and advising on Human Intelligence (HUMINT) operations.

Staff Operations Officer SME Responsibilities Include:



  • Support home station and deployed operational elements by providing operational research, analysis, and advice in furtherance of the customer's objective to acquire intelligence
  • Utilize customer-specific databases to conduct research and to write summaries, reports, official correspondence, and guidance
  • Provide thorough and knowledgeable briefings to the customer
  • Assist with the implementation of Intelligence Community directives and procedures legally required to facilitate operational requirements
  • Draft comprehensive written reports for direction and guidance of current/future operations
  • Provide substantive feedback and evaluation of HUMINT operations, and ensure operations are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies and in compliance with Intelligence Oversight requirements
  • Develop and/or contributes to the development of Operations Orders and Concepts of Operations, ICD-304 operational and coordination cables, and other official communications
  • Coordinate with analysts to ensure the provision of intelligence support packets, production reviews, targeting packets, counterintelligence reviews to support Senior or Annual Review Panels, and support asset validation
  • Assist the customer in the maintenance of required Asset Management files using appropriate classified systems to ensure complete source dossiers are maintained in accordance with regulations
  • Collaborate with reports officers and intelligence analysts to improve collection efforts and achieve operational benchmarks set by the customer
  • Supports pre-mission training events for force provides; and plans, manages, and executes Staff Mission Briefs
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Staff Operations Officer SME Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • Current TS/SCI with a Counter-Intelligence Scope or Lifestyle polygraph or be willing to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Education requirement can be substituted by an additional six (6) years of full-spectrum HUMINT collection experience
  • Must be a certified HUMINT collector and have graduated from a recognized certification course
  • Must have completed at least two (2) operational assignments as a HUMINT core collector
  • Must have completed at least one (1) staff assignment (minimum of two (2) years) managing/overseeing HUMINT collection operations at the Major Command, Theater Special Operations Command, Army Service Component Command or Geographic Combatant Command level, or other Intelligence Community collection agency
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience planning and conducting controlled HUMINT collection operations and providing strategic perspective, guidance, and oversight of HUMINT operations
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing headquarters-based operational case management, managing the collection of foreign intelligence, and working with counter-intelligence programs
  • In-depth understanding of advanced HUMINT operational techniques, HUMINT authorities, collection processes, the HUMINT operational cycle, Intelligence Oversight, and the Intelligence Cycle
  • Working knowledge in the areas of national-level Special Operations Forces and Special Operations intelligence functions and capabilities, or national-level Intelligence Community functions and capabilities
  • Expertise utilizing classified Intelligence Community-approved cable communications systems and administrating Asset Risk Management System (ARMS)
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in researching, building, staffing, and presenting information briefs and decision briefs to audiences at the rank equivalent of O-5/GS-14 and above.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as to establish and maintain a strong customer-focused working relationship
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and must have a working knowledge with Microsoft Project and Microsoft SharePoint. Proficiency with standard commercial software applications (e.g., web browsers, Windows) is also expected
  • Valid US passport required
  • Must be able to pass all pre-deployment requirements including a medical, dental, psychological, background, credit, and security screens as deemed necessary to be considered deployable.
  • Must be able to obtain all required immunizations deemed necessary by the contract
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
