Description

Lead the creation and delivery of mission-based camp and retreat programming in collaboration with program managers and camp team.

Lead camp staff in providing excellent customer service, high-quality programming, and safe operations for hosted programs with clients. Provide leadership for camp program managers, staff, and volunteers including the selection, training, assessment, and recognition of team members. Work together with Melwood's Human Resources team to coordinate staff hiring, selection processes, and managing employee relations.

Ensure that the property, facility, and operations are in compliance with all applicable state and local regulations (food service, health, etc.) and in accordance with American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation process. Work with Melwood facility services team and contractors in the oversight of operations, food service, and activity areas (challenge courses, pool, archery) *Includes maintaining 'Serve Safe' certification for food operations. Lead the creation and implementation of risk management, safety, and emergency plans and is a liaison with Melwood's corporate risk management and compliance teams.

Support Melwood Director to create and implement an annual calendar of camp and retreat programs and events. Serve as the main liaison with the program leaders of partner organizations to create and deliver camp and retreat programs. Collaborate with Melwood Director to maintain and cultivate relationships with existing clients, as well as support sales efforts with new partner organizations.

Collaborate with the office manager for registration, business, finance, and technology processes that support the camp programming and operations. Work with office manager and camp families to ensure camper spots are filled in Melwood camp and retreat programs.

Serve as main liaison with program partners (ex: Promise Landing Farm for equestrian programming) and program vendors (ex: challenge course and pool contractors) *Includes maintaining certification as a challenge course instructor.

In coordination with the director, serve as a liaison to local community, government, and accrediting organizations. Work with Melwood marketing and fundraising teams to provide information for external and internal communications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum of 3 years of program leadership in camp, recreation, youth, and/or non-profit mission-based organization and some experience working with people with disabilities is desired

  5. Ability to motivate and create a positive atmosphere as a member of the camps management team in the midst of ambitious goals and internal and external challenges that arise
  6. Possess demonstrated commitment to customer service, welcoming spirit of hospitality and drive for quality programs
  7. Strong planning and organizational skills to manage programming and operational systems, and use software systems proficiently
  8. Diligence and accuracy are essential, abilities to prioritize work, consistently meet deadlines and work as a collaborator

Additional Information:

Serve on the management team to lead the programming and operations of the recreation center

Work at recreation center property, local travel to client organizations and various meetings

Ambulatory ability to move about the site and auditory and visual ability to identify and respond to any situation that may arise

Ability to communicate and work with groups and individuals

Cognitive abilities to plan for and coordinate outdoor and youth programming

*Longer hours and weekends during summer camp season and during shoulder season weekend programs.
