Purpose of Position |
The Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership invites applications at the rank of Associate or Full Professor for the position of Department Chair,
beginning July 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will:
- provide strong and consistent leadership, particularly in complex or challenging situations;
- advocate for the department at the college, university, and community levels;
- work effectively with a diverse group of faculty and staff;
- understand and support the unique academic programs within the department;
- make informed, balanced, and strategic decisions that align with departmental priorities;
- encourage, promote, and model collegiality;
- maintain a focus on student recruitment, retention, and success;
- uphold department policies and goals while ensuring effective communication and collaboration with faculty and staff; and
- promote and reward excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Primary Responsibilities |
Primary responsibilities include:
- Manage all department personnel including:
- Faculty: make recommendations for reappointment, tenure, and promotion; conduct annual performance reviews; evaluate needs for additional hires; ensure faculty are informed and adhere to university and departmental policies; organize and lead departmental meetings; address faculty concerns; and represent faculty issues to university administration.
- Program coordinators: work collaboratively with program coordinators to update curriculum and create course schedules; support program review and evaluation; and assist with re-accreditation efforts.
- Staff: evaluate staffing needs; maintain efficient office operations; conduct staff performance reviews; ensure staff are informed and adhere to university and departmental policies; address staff concerns; represent staff issues to university administration; and ensure accurate personnel records.
- oversee student advising; disseminate important information about curricula, opportunities, and changes; provide support for student clubs; and address grievances and appeals;
- prepare and manage budgets in alignment with faculty input, university policies, and regulatory requirements; and
- fulfill other responsibilities listed in the Department Chair/School Director Handbook.

Qualifications |
Qualifications include a doctoral degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Organizational Leadership, or a closely related field.
