Description
The Department of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Maintenance Worker II position. The incumbent will Perform various duties as required to maintain and repair all automated custodial equipment and power tools involved in the operation of Facilities Management as a whole (i.e. utility and craft shops, custodial) to clean and maintain institutional buildings to ensure a safe and pleasant environment. What you'll do:
- Shall perform routine monthly service/preventative maintenance/minor repair to all commercial cleaning equipment as outlined on manufacturer's checklist which includes routine inspection, adjustment, lubrication, and cleaning; also performs routine replacement of belts, bags, rollers, plugs, cords and cord holders on custodial equipment such as wet/dry vacs, upright sweepers, buffers, burnishers, eraser cleaners, power dryers, carpet extractors, and back pack vacuums. Shall move, relocate and/or carry custodial equipment to assigned storage or the repair shop (some may be in excess of 50 pounds). Shall operate vehicle in the transport of equipment. Operates box trucks/lift gates in performing these duties. Shall assemble new equipment as required.
- Shall maintain/repair all power tools and equipment which will include: routine inspection and adjustments; lubrication and cleaning; replacement of minor components. Shall repair/replace items such as vacuum motors, pumps, motors, drive mechanisms, etc. on custodial equipment such as automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors, buffers, burnishers, wet/dry vacs, etc. Be familiar with diagrams and specifications as required for equipment/power tool maintenance. Requisitions parts and supplies as needed. Trade Specialist shall prioritize the repair of all power tools and equipment on whether to repair or purchase new power tools or equipment.
- Mixes, dilutes, and uses commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required. Vacuums and shampoos carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, disinfects, waxes, and polishes floors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and related fixtures using brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and power scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines. Empties and cleans waste receptacles. Transports trash and waste to disposal areas. Cleans area around disposal site.
- Sweeps, shovels, and removes water, ice, snow, and debris from sidewalks, steps, and entryways using brooms, shovels, and chemical ice removers.
- Moves, sets-up, rearranges, and dismantles desks, tables, chairs, displays, and other related equipment using a dolly, handcart, or physically lifting objects.
- Locks and unlocks buildings, offices, classrooms, custodial rooms, and meeting rooms as needed to perform job duties.
- Assists with maintaining the computerized Equipment Management Program of custodial equipment and tools. This includes: maintaining current preventative maintenance records, inventory list of all equipment and locations, continuous numbering and historical record files of all new equipment, and equipment surplus records. Also maintains spare parts inventory and current parts catalogs.
Pay Grade: 11 Hours: Mon-Fri 5a-1p

Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Job requires general knowledge in a specific area typically obtained through a business, technical, or vocational school as might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school (vocational or technical training in electrical, hydraulics, mechanical systems, pump operations/water pressure and orifices); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 6 months in the following:
- Experience in general and common repairs on commercial custodial equipment and a a variety of power tools
- Operate commercial custodial equipment
- Experience in operating a personal computer
- Knowledge and ability to interpret all appropriate safety codes, electrical codes, etc.Abilit
- Ability to use soldering gun to solder leads and electronic switches and circuitry.
- Demonstrated eye to hand coordination.
- Ability to hear and interpret sounds in the work area and verbal instructions.
- Ability to lift materials over 50 pounds
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of power tools.
- Ability to learn and operate various software computer programs.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form.
- Ability to apply problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to climb heights over 10 feet.
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to work in uncomfortable positions as required.
- Ability to bend, walk, crawl, etc. over rough and slippery surfaces.
- Ability to service and repair commercial custodial equipment and power tools.
- Ability to operate and utilize a personal computer.
- Ability to read and understand electric schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to test electronic circuit boards with multimeter.
