Department Overview
PG&E's Engineering, Planning, and Strategy (EP&S) organization is focused on engineering the grid of the future through an integrated approach leveraging renewable energy sources, traditional utility infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our customers. The Electric Engineering department within EP&S is responsible for designing all aspects of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission grid, including system planning, engineering, resiliency solutions, and asset strategy.

Position Summary
The Engineering Rotation Development Program is a 12-month rotation program that provides engineers an opportunity to gain meaningful engineering experience in up to two departments within Electric Engineering focused on improving PG&E's large network of electric transmission and distribution facilities. The rotation assignments will occur within multiple locations as defined. Some of the available department rotations include:

  • Distribution Asset Planning
  • Transmission Systems Planning
  • Distribution Planning - Distributed Generation
  • Distributions Operations Engineering
  • System Protection
  • Grid Innovation

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

The hourly rate for a bachelor's degree is $48.23 and for a master's degree is $52.12.

Responsibilities
With six months in each rotation, participants will have enough time to learn about the rotational department and contribute to the department's success. Engineers can expect to work within PG&E's service territory with rotation opportunities within the departments specified above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will have received or be receiving a Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering from May2023to December2024from an ABET accredited university.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date. Will need to obtain a California's driver's license if current license is from another state.

Desired Qualifications

  • Completed coursework in Electrical Engineering with power emphasis: Power Systems, Analysis, Transmission Lines, System Protection/Substations, and other related courses
  • Experience with Python and SQL.
  • Former PG&E Internship
  • Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
  • Work experience or internships in utilities, power industry, or other power related fields
  • EIT Certification
