The Department of Biochemistry

Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to provide comprehensive technical support for all research activities conducted in the lab. In addition to research responsibilities, this role includes general lab management and supervisory duties, such as organizing the lab, maintaining common stocks, ordering supplies, and managing inventory logs. The individual will also oversee equipment service contracts and ensure the maintenance of research equipment, as well as enforce lab safety protocols. Furthermore, this position entails limited supervisory responsibilities, primarily focused on training new lab staff in routine duties and protocols.

Duties include:

* General lab management duties, including maintaining lab organization, ordering supplies, managing inventories, making and maintaining general-use stocks, and coordinating lab safety requirements and procedures
* Maintenance of cell cultures
* Performing molecular biology tasks related to the design, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins, as well as the design and synthesis of deep mutational scanning libraries
* Conducting functional, biophysical, and quality control assays on cells and/or recombinant proteins generated, including performing and analyzing NGS data related to deep mutational scanning experiments
* Analyzing, organizing, and presenting experimental results to the supervisor and/or larger research group
* Conducting background research relevant to assigned tasks, which may include reviewing literature, attending seminars or technical workshops, and learning new techniques

Shift

Typically, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday with the ability to be flexible when needs arise

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Ph.D or MS degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields
Years of Experience: Greater than or equal to 5 years of post-graduate research and/or lab management experience
Niche Professional Interests: Molecular Biophysics, Virology, Lipoproteins
Additional Training: Budget Management, Laboratory Safety

Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $51,875-$81,744
Grade: GGS-9E
