The Franklin College Office of Information Technology (Franklin
OIT) is a member of the Dean's Office and employs more than 40 full-time employees and student workers. As a Help Desk Institute (
HDI) Team Certified Organization, Franklin
OIT is dedicated to providing exceptional IT support and leadership characterized by optimism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Franklin
OIT offers a variety of college-wide IT services for free and cost recovery rates. The office is responsible for overseeing department-level and college-wide technology purchases including computer lifecycle, faculty start-up, and student technology fee needs. |

- All team members are expected to be HDI Support Center Analyst certified. Franklin OIT arranges for all new hires who are not certified to attend HDI SCA training and funds one certification exam attempt

- This position requires excellent interpersonal, technical, and organizational skills as well as familiarity with industry best practices and UGA IT policies and resources
- This position must have expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in the relevant technical field of expertise (e.g., client services/desktop support, instructional technology, systems administration, web services, etc.)
- Prior supervisory experience with a strong track record of mentorship/managerial competency preferred

Position Summary |
This position leads the Franklin
OIT Systems Management team and is responsible for achieving the college's strategic vision for systems management and research-oriented systems and services. This position oversees multiple complex projects with a college-wide scope, requiring fiscal responsibility and careful coordination with institutional stakeholders and vendors. It involves excellent organization, problem-solving, customer service, and communication skills. This position provides managerial and technical leadership as it supervises, coaches, mentors, and manages five team members. This position oversees employee performance, training, a 24O7 on-call schedule, and services including technical support for faculty and staff for research and specialty service needs. This position includes technical support for the college's core infrastructure and contract client services and provides consultation on a wide array of IT services including server hosting and support, guidance on technology budgeting for grant proposals, and best practices for virtualization, data storage, and backup solutions. Other responsibilities include security management and compliance for the organization and researchers, and all aspects of server and systems support and management including, but not limited to hardware, software, deployment, networking, and security. It also includes complex enterprise server, storage, and networking hardware infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and specialty software. This position also participates in the Franklin
OIT Helpdesk and provides advanced tiers of support directly to clients. Additionally, This position serves as a representative of Franklin
OIT for various college and campus groups, striving for innovation and contributing to the development of college-level and university-wide IT standards and practices in alignment with relevant institution, system-wide, state, and federal guidelines, policies, and/or law. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
This position includes use of advanced client services and computer/technology support skills. Applicants should be fluent with active directory, group policy, imaging, and other aspects of desktop management. This position has advanced server and network administration skills and fluent with active directory, shell scripting, virtualization technology, and server administration in a multi-platform environment
Technical
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with multiple Operating System platforms including, but not limited to, RedHat/Rocky Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows Server
- Advanced experience in the relevant technical field of expertise including active directory, group policy, desktop and server management, and security best practices Experience utilizing endpoint management systems and industry-standard tools for desktop, learning, content management, and/or systems management services (e.g., Ivanti, Intune, JAMF, Puppet/Ansible, GIT Hub/Lab, etc.) Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and related services and policy management
