Department Information

Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 50 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has undergraduate degree programs in: Health Sciences, Nutrition and Food Science, Sport Management, and Exercise Science. At the graduate level, the Department offers degree programs in: Coaching, Exercise Science, Nutrition, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sport Management. The Department also has extensive connections to the Center for Rehabilitation and Independent Living (CRIL), which combines the expertise of faculty in the human movement sciences and clinical rehabilitation to improve the health and functioning of individuals in the region (https://chp.georgiasouthern.edu/cril/). One of the leading programs associated with the CRIL is Camp RAD, which is a summer camp that uses an interdisciplinary approach to empower transition-age youth with disabilities to live healthy, independent lives (https://chp.georgiasouthern.edu/cril/camp-rad/about-us/). Another leading program is Super Eagles, which pairs individuals with disabilities with a university student that develops and implements personalized physical activity programs for them (https://chp.georgiasouthern.edu/cril/super-eagles/).

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, the Clinical Instructor and Director of the CRIL will provide leadership and direct oversight of the CRIL, including the Camp RAD and Super Eagles programs. Specific administrative duties will include, but not be limited to: leading, directing, supervising and evaluating all facets of programming and special events; representing the Center with the public and university audiences as needed; serving as a departmental purchasing agent; assisting in maintaining the Center facilities and equipment to create a safe, clean and enjoyable environment; and communicating community-identified needs to potential campus partners and serving as a resource regarding emerging partnership opportunities. Depending on the successful candidate's specific education and background, they will also teach undergraduate courses in either our Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education, or Coaching Education programs. This is a 12-month non-tenure track appointment.

Required Qualifications

Earned master's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health Education, Coaching Education, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health Education, or Coaching Education by July 1, 2025.

Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills;

Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications;

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives;

Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health Education, Coaching Education courses at the college/university level.

Ability to teach online.

Experience working with grants.

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
