SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist in our Solar group to oversee the California/Southwest region to support and interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's environmental management efforts for Civil, Solar, Wind, and High Voltage Transmission Groups' projects throughout North America, providing review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

NOTE: This position will require travel of 50% or more. Preferred candidate will live in or near California or nearby region OR have the ability to travel extensively to support the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement Mortenson's environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities. Essential requirements:



  • Develop site-specific environmental plans and activities
  • Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs
  • Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management
  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections
  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial, and local) reporting and documentation requirements
  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
  • Interface with customer's environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.
  • Assist in the development of company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Minimum of four years of related experience
  • Significant experience with two or more of the following areas: erosion prevention and sediment control, stormwater pollution prevention plans, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, wetlands, endangered species
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • California QSP/QSD certification or the ability to obtain certification
  • Working knowledge of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regulations
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player
  • Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies
  • Ability to use PC, tablets, and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)
  • Current driver's license
  • Able to travel 50% or higher


EDUCATION:



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field



The base compensation range for this role is $85,000 - $115,000. This position is eligible for a potential annual bonus. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skill, and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
