Essential Job Duties |
We are seeking an
Equipment Services CDL Operator to join the Landscape Maintenance and Operations department. This position is responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining a variety of equipment and services that support the upkeep of over 2,000 acres of campus landscape. As part of a team that provides essential services across the University, the
Equipment Services CDL Operator plays a key role in ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality campus services, and requires a strong commitment to customer service, safety, and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Rolloff Collections: Handle on-demand and scheduled bulk material collections, servicing approximately 30 containers weekly. Haul materials to appropriate disposal or recycling facilities, including landfill waste, construction debris, white goods, scrap metal, pallets, yard waste, and tires. Transport and Hauling: Operate equipment and drive trucks and trailers for the transport of materials and equipment on and off campus. Equipment Services: Utilize forklifts, loaders, boom trucks, and specialized equipment to support customer needs for projects, research, repairs, or maintenance activities. Immediate and Priority Response: Respond to unplanned service requests from facilities shops or campus departments requiring immediate resolution. As a designated mandatory employee, you will be expected to report for work during adverse weather or emergency events, even if the University is otherwise closed. On-Call Response: Serve as part of a rotating on-call team to respond to after-hours emergencies. Work during special events, peak periods, or emergencies. Additional on-call compensation is provided. Dearstyne Bulk Material Convenience Site: Occasionally serve as a back-up attendant, providing customer service, ensuring proper waste sorting for recycling, maintaining site operations, and tracking materials and site usage through data sheets and apps. Curbside Recycling Collections: Manage route collections of recycling carts and haul materials to the appropriate recycling facilities. Inspection and Safety: Conduct continuous monitoring, inspection, and reporting of campus environments, trucks, and equipment. Identify and resolve potential safety concerns or equipment issues before they escalate. Repair and Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on trucks and equipment, including backhoes, forklifts, dump trucks, trailers, and snow removal equipment.

Other Responsibilities |
- Position serves in a mandatory role and is essential to the operations of the university. Position is required to work during adverse weather conditions or campus emergencies.
- Snow removal operations as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
- Position serves on the On-Call Team and is required to rotate through the on-call schedule every few weeks to provide after-hours support to campus if needed. An On-Call hourly fee is earned.
- Experience in operation and basic maintenance of trucks and equipment necessary to complete work assignments.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation. Up to 60 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience operating trucks and equipment necessary to complete work assignments. Standard trucks or equipment include, but not limited to; dump trucks and straight trucks (GVWR 18,000lbs - 65,000lbs), trailers, fork lift, waste and recycling collections trucks and equipment, snow removal trucks and equipment, and agricultural tractors.
