Development Engineer IV - Reliability Modeling

Basic Job Functions:



  • The design reliability engineer is responsible for ensuring that the product continuously meets or exceeds First Solar, customer, certification, and regulatory body expectations.
  • Responsible to ensure that new process, suppliers, and designs complete the required First Solar qualification plan with acceptable results prior to release to customer production shipments, through a regimented approach of documentation, analysis and clear conclusions/recommendations related to the performance of the change.
  • Responsible for assisting in the documentation and development of specific qualifications programs.
  • Owns the FMEA creation and development for all levels of FMEA's (TFMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, SFMEA)
  • Responsible for global support of Reliability qualification efforts.
  • Perform project management activities consisting of development projects.
  • Applies statistical and engineering methods to optimize organizational effectiveness. Core leader within the group in one or more areas.
  • Own the complex problems and drives systematic root cause and corrective actions, implements preventive and monitoring system.


Education/Experience:



  • Master's in engineering or physics (EE, Mech Eng, Chem E)
  • 8-10 years' experience as a lead reliability engineer role is required.


Required Skills/Competencies:



  • Seasoned expert in doing risk analysis using FMEA method.
  • Product reliability testing and complex modeling using python or similar tool
  • Design of reliability demonstration and modeling tests and automation systems for data logging, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience in the photovoltaic /semiconductor industry is preferred.
  • Experience is doing component level FMEA and translating to system level FMEA.
  • Experience reliability growth analysis using ALT, HALT, etc methods.
  • Experience in correlation of device physics and its reliability in different environmental conditions
  • Experience in helping teams to identify reliability related issues during early stage of product development and find solutions to it
  • MS Excel, Access and Power Point experience (Intermediate level required. Advanced level desired).
  • FMEA development experience required.
  • SQL express (database) experience required.
  • JMP (statistical) software experience required.
  • Matlab or Python
  • Reliability prediction and modeling
  • Problem solving
  • Visual basic programming experience required.
  • Ability to learn the detailed operation and component functions of solar simulators, environmental chambers, measurement instruments and other related equipment required.
  • Must possess good communication skills.
  • Must be motivated to work independently.
  • Must be able to demonstrate problem solving ability.
  • Must have strong organization and managerial skills.
  • Experience using electro-mechanical test and measurement equipment required.
  • Knowledge of various measurement techniques required.


Reporting Relationships:



  • Highly skilled individual contributor with technical, project management, simulation, data management, problem solving, etc skills


Travel:



  • 5% - 10%


Estimated Salary Range:



  • $129,000 - $175,000


US Physical Requirements:



  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
