At the Ragon Institute, people are our greatest asset. In this role, the Flow cytometry core technologist will be an integral part of the evolution of the organization. Under the guidance of the core Director, the successful candidate will be a part of a team that provides expert assistance and training to the researchers of the Ragon Institute and the surrounding community in their utilization of the flow cytometry, cell sorting, and imaging resources of the core. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled scientist with deep expertise in advanced flow cytometry and cell sorting.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist in performing daily QC of flow cytometry analyzers (BD FACSymphony, LSR Fortessa, and LSR2, and Cytek Aurora) and other core instruments (Luminex bead array analyzers, Cytek ImageStream X Mark II).
  • Perform daily maintenance and operation of high speed cell sorters (FACSAria Fusion and SONY SH800)
  • Provide user support and training on all core instruments.
  • Provide troubleshooting for core equipment.
  • Maintain lab stocks and prepare basic solutions.
  • General upkeep of the facility.
  • Monitor supplies and place orders as necessary.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly invoices for billing.
  • Some heavy lifting is required (reagent containers weighing up to 50 lbs).
  • Contribute to discussions regarding future directions for the core including new equipment purchases.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • BS/BA required
  • 6+ years' experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting, preferably in a core setting
  • General laboratory experience (pipetting, measuring, autoclaving, etc)
  • Experience in cell culture and BL2 work
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Ability to perform as a member of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Computer experience in common Microsoft applications and flow analysis software
  • Occasional evening flexibility may be required.
