Short Intro and About the Job

At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHS Manager) based in our City of Industry, California beverage manufacturing facility!

In this role, you will be responsible for the development and execution of programs to ensure that the Company provides a safe workplace for employees and minimizes impacts to the environment. This position will lead compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. The incumbent will implement a sustainable environmental, health and safety management system at a plant and regional level and drive EHS performance improvement and efficiency. This position will participate in the Danone EHS Leadership Network. This position is also responsible for Food Defense and Security Programs and lead Food Defense/ Security Team.

The incumbent is successful through strong leadership, vision, and effective management and ensure these goals in a professional atmosphere that enhances Company economic viability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    35% Build proactive safety culture at plant(s) and region. Create environment where employees and supervision are engaged in working safely.
  • 10% Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, procedures and best practice techniques, implement new regulatory requirements, and provide control measures that reduce or eliminate risks to the Company. Implement and maintain an EHS Management Systems. Serve as a lead for company-wide EHS projects/initiatives and be EHS subject matter expert (ex. - Process Safety Management).
  • 10% Conduct EHS assessments at the facility and region, identify areas for improvement, lead corrective actions (from plant and corporate/3rd party audits). Report EHS results to manufacturing Plant Managers and Sr. Director, Environmental Health and Safety.
  • 10% Oversee all EHS training programs and requirements. Lead EHS reviews and identify requirements for engineering projects, new lines/equipment and management of change activity. Serve as an EHS coach for other plant supervision and plant EHS professionals.
  • 15% Investigate injuries/illnesses, near-misses and environmental incidents. Determine root cause of incidences and provide corrective action plan. Manage and track injury and illness data and environmental metrics. Lead reduction in injury and illness rates and environmental impact and costs. Serve as a champion for Sustainability projects.
  • 20% Prepare, maintain, and comply with federal, state, and local agency environmental reporting and permitting and Corporate EHS Standards. Advise on all EHS legislation and legal requirements. Ensure facility maintains ongoing compliance with OSHA/EPA requirements, safety standards, wastewater treatment plant operations, air permits and waste management practices. Serve as the interface with local, state and federal agencies.

The base compensation range for this position is $130K - $160K per year commensurate with experience. About You

  • You have a Bachelors or Masters in Safety, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or related field, required.
  • Must have at least 8-10 years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • You must be knowledgeable with OSHA and EPA regulations, required. Familiarity with California state requirements is a plus.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You are proficient in the use of MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • You have experience in a lean manufacturing environment or IWS environment, preferred.
  • You have exceptional leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate (a real passion for EHS).
  • You have effective management skills and ability to act as a change agent to drive process improvements and cultural change and create alignment.
  • You are adaptable and flexible and can work well under pressure, effectively handling conflict, strict deadlines and multiple tasks.
  • You have the ability to assess and implement EHS best practices.
  • You have excellent organization, recordkeeping and documentation skills.
  • You have ability to support a 24/7 production environment as business needs dictate. Work schedules could include days, nights and weekends, as needed.
  • You have ability to travel--potentially 10-25% travel.
