Overview

If you are passionate about quantitative algorithms and spatial data science techniques, join Esri's highly collaborative and innovative Spatial Statistics team as a Software Developer. We're looking for a motivated and technical engineer to help us extend and improve our spatial statistics, space-time pattern analysis, and spatial machine-learning capabilities. We are committed to creating tools that enable people to make data-driven decisions. Your programming skills and enthusiasm will inspire powerful spatial data science and GeoAI workflows to extract meaning from complex data sets and accelerate spatial problem-solving for our customers around the world.

Responsibilities



  • Develop Python and C++ geoprocessing tools in the field of spatial statistics and spatial ML
  • Find, analyze, and fix software bugs to improve the performance of tools
  • Provide technical and research expertise to collaboratively design, test, and document the tools we develop
  • Build and ship quality software by working effectively in an agile, highly interactive environment
  • Apply and adapt traditional statistical techniques to spatially explicit data
  • Champion algorithms and methodologies while remaining adaptable to alternative ideas and time constraints


Requirements



  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Geography, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in both Python and C++ programming
  • Knowledge of various scientific Python modules such as SciPy and NumPy
  • Strong background in statistics, spatial statistics, machine learning, and/or time-series analysis


Recommended Qualifications



  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Geography, or a related field
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Experience with R package development and familiarity with R's C API
  • Experience with data visualization, mapping, and GIS
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS suite of products
