The Senior Data Governance Analyst within our Data Management and Analytics department will empower and enable the creation of data-driven insights across our organization. Collaborates with Leaders, Analysts and Architects to establish and enforce policies, procedures, and standards that enables the organization to leverage data assets securely, ethically, and efficiently across diverse data and technology platform in support of strategic objectives. This role requires someone who is dynamic, comfortable with ambiguity and complexity, and has a deep understanding of Data Management, Data Governance, and Business Intelligence practices.

* Salary of $95,000-$115,000/year depending on experience

Responsibilities

Liaison and Analytical Solutions

    Serve as the primary liaison with business leaders to define analytical solutions to business issues.
  • Capture requirements, perform data analysis, define key metrics, and transform those into functional requirements for insight reports and dashboards.
  • Enable executives, managers, and other end-users to identify opportunities, make informed decisions, and implement effective strategies.

Data Governance and Security

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and refine data governance policies and procedures for Azure cloud and on-premises data platforms to ensure the security, privacy, and integrity of data assets.
  • Ensure that data governance practices comply with relevant data privacy and security regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA by conducting risk assessments, implementing data protection measures, and supporting compliance audits.

Data Quality and Classification

  • Establish and enforce standards for data quality, ensuring data is accurate, complete, and consistent.
  • Identify data quality issues, implement corrective measures, and establish mechanisms for ongoing data quality improvement.
  • Develop and maintain data classification schemes to categorize data according to its sensitivity, criticality, and regulatory requirements.

Metadata Management

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of metadata repositories to catalog and manage information about data assets, data definitions, lineage, using tools like Azure Data Catalog and Azure Purview.

Performance Measurement

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of data governance initiatives by collecting, and analyzing data governance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and preparing reports for stakeholders that demonstrate compliance and improvements in data management practices.

Training and Education

  • Provide training and education programs to raise awareness about data governance principles, practices, and policies among employees by developing training materials, conducting workshops, and supporting the adoption of data governance best practices.

Collaboration and Accountability

  • Work closely with data stewards and business units to define data ownership, access rights, and accountability.


Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Data Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience (required)
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant work experience and growth in a data discipline (required)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Data Governance or related roles (e.g. Senior Business Analyst, Senior Data Analyst, Compliance Analyst, Data Steward) (required)

Technical Skills and Expertise

  • Experience with Data Management tools such as Informatica, Collibra, Microsoft Purview

Azure Data Platform and BI

  • Direct experience in Azure Data Platform Services and Technologies, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence including Power BI

Data Governance and Protection

  • Proficiency in Data Governance principles and best practices
  • Knowledge of Data Protection regulations and compliance, including Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA, FERPA, HIPAA, etc.

Microsoft 365 and Office Proficiency

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 tooling (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams), MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Web applications

Analytical, Project Delivery and Communication Skills

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, written, and oral presentation skills to effectively communicate actionable insights
  • Solid understanding of project delivery methodologies and demonstrated ability to deliver on dates and commitments through effective organization, planning, and prioritization.
