Job Description:

DataFielder Inc. has an opening for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer. A key DMI objective is to "expand foundational infrastructure to provide scalable, flexible services for timely and appropriate access to actionable data in the public health ecosystem." Currently, public health programs operating across CDC have myriad investments in divergent and overlapping systems to collect, process, and analyze data to support public health decision making and administrative functions. Systems are of varying age, complexity, and quality and this creates a burden for public health partners to provide and use data, for programs to use their data, and for CDC to secure shared data with its partners and deidentified data with the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, configure, and maintain various bioinformatics and data science compute systems, with simultaneous foci on traditional Linux Virtual Machines and modern Container-based infrastructure.
  • Eloquently explain and summarize work performed to both technical and non-technical clients.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of Microsoft Azure experience.
    • 5+ years of Data Science, Administration and/or Full-stack Software Development experience.
    • 5+ years of Linux operating system experience, both on the Desktop and CLI. Knowledge of Ubuntu and Debian is essential, and having additional experience with other Distributions is strongly preferred.
    • 5+ years of Bash and/or Windows PowerShell scripting in production Data workflows.
    • 5+ years' experience with git and GitHub; strong understanding of Version Control.
    • Intimate understanding of various IDEs including VS Code and JetBrains Suite.
    • Demonstrable experience using containerized workflows (Docker, Podman, Sysbox, Kaniko).
    • Demonstrable Kubernetes experience.
    • Understanding of Load Balancers and DNS routing.
    • Experience writing, serving, and maintaining technical documentation.
    • Experience and passion for teaching and mentoring Junior Staff.
    • Experience using Jira and working in a team that uses Agile methodology.

      Preferred Additional Qualifications:

    • Experience with and opinions on various Linux distributions (Ubuntu, RHEL, Arch, nix.os, openSUSE, etc.).
    • Experience with Terraform.
    • Experience with the Python and/or Rust programming languages. ICICI
    • Experience with R and/or Julia statistical programming languages.
    • Experience with writing user-facing technical documentation.
    • Experience identifying and resolving security advisories and apply?ing vendor patches.
    • Experience using Terraform or ARM templates.
    • Prior experience with Nextflow pipelines is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and data governance frameworks
    • Experience designing, implementing, and automating distributed system solutions.
