Position Highlights We are seeking two highly motivated Research Technicians to join the Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuromodulation, and Neural Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Neurosurgery located at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson; co-affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidates will be responsible for collecting and managing electroencephalogram (EEG) data alongside eye tracker and wearable sensor data from human subjects. This role is pivotal to advancing our understanding of neural processes and enhancing our research in spinal cord stimulation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Set up and configure experimental equipment, including neural data collection devices (e.g., EEG, eye tracking, and wearable sensors).
  • Regularly calibrate and maintain hardware to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment and software.
  • Collect and record neural data from human subjects during experiments.
  • Monitor data acquisition processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Handle and store collected data securely (e.g., encrypted hard drives, UA Box) in accordance with data protection protocols.
  • Ensure the software used in experiments is functioning smoothly.
  • Perform regular software updates and troubleshoot any software-related issues.
  • Assist in the development or customization of software tools as needed (e.g., developing MATLAB-Simulink models for experimental tasks).
  • Utilize MATLAB for real-time data acquisition, preprocessing, and initial quality checks.
  • Document experiment setup, calibration procedures, and any troubleshooting steps.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of data collection and equipment maintenance.
  • Report any issues or deviations from protocols to the research team promptly.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Research Coordinator/Principal Investigator (PI) to schedule and organize experiments.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and safety regulations during experiments.
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of research activities and data integration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Candidate should possess an understanding of neurophysiology, neuroscience, and neuromodulation.
  • Familiarity with EEG preprocessing tools (e.g., EEGLAB, Brainstorm).
  • Knowledge of how to work with human subjects in a research setting.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, neuroscience, psychology or a related field.
* Previous experience in a research setting, particularly with EEG data collection.
* Familiarity with eye tracking and wearable sensors is a plus.
* Basic understanding of signal processing techniques and use of MATLAB.
