Summary

The Coordinator of School Partnerships oversees all areas related to partnerships between the Education Division at Saint Xavier University and P-12 schools and reports to the Education Division Director. The role encompasses both strategic and logistical approaches to clinical experiences of candidates in all undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Partnerships for Clinical Preparation: The Coordinator collaborates with university and school partners to

  1. co-construct mutually beneficial P-12 school/university partnerships
  2. share responsibility for continuous improvement of candidate preparation by establishing mutually agreeable expectations for candidate entry, preparation, and exit
  3. ensure link between theory and practice and coherence across clinical and academic components of preparation

Clinical Educators: The Coordinator collaborates with university and school partners to
  1. select, prepare, evaluate, support, and retain high-quality clinical educators who demonstrate a positive impact on candidates' development and P-12 student learning and development
  2. implement multiple indicators to establish, maintain, and refine criteria for selection of clinical educators
  3. oversee needed professional development, performance evaluation tools, and the continuous improvement and retention of clinical educators in all clinical placement settings

Clinical Experience: The Coordinator collaborates with university and school partners to
  1. design clinical experiences of adequate depth, breadth, diversity, coherence, and duration to ensure that candidates demonstrate their developing effectiveness and positive impact on all students' learning and development
  2. implement multiple performance-based assessments at key points within the program to demonstrate candidates' development of the knowledge, skill, and professional dispositions that are associated with a positive impact on the learning and development of all P-12 students

School Partnerships
  1. Seek, initiate, oversee, and sustain professional partnerships with P-12 schools and districts to serve the needs and expectations of all programs and to benefit all stakeholders
  2. Communicate and collaborate with all school partners to understand policies/requirements regarding Clinical Practice: Student Teaching/Practicum and promote professional development to meet the needs of partner schools
  3. Serve as liaison between the University, school districts in the region, and professional organizations such as Chicago Area Directors of Student Teaching (CADST); represent the University in these relationships and at key local and state meetings related to clinical practice
  4. Keep current on state requirements for clinical practice/student teaching including edTPA policies and procedures (as applicable).
  5. Complete and maintain all state-mandated paperwork pertaining to Clinical Practice/Student Teaching
  6. Monitor and document licensure areas and grade bands of Mentor Teachers as related to teacher candidates
  7. Provide/monitor all documentation for Mentor Teachers, including course waivers and Professional Development Units

Student Teaching/Practicum/Field Experiences
  1. Implement all policies/procedures/forms in accordance with State, University, and Division Policies
  2. Coordinate and assume responsibility for evaluating the Clinical Practice/Student Teaching component of teacher education; solicit evaluative feedback from teacher candidates, mentor teachers, and faculty
  3. Update Student Teaching/Practicum Handbooks yearly
  4. Complete all Student Teaching/Practicum placements
  5. Recruit, support, monitor, and review University Supervisors for student teaching
  6. Assign supervisors to student teachers
  7. Provide needed materials and professional development for University Supervisors
  8. In collaboration with colleagues, review and problem-solve issues regarding Student Teachers, University Supervisors, and Mentor Teachers
  9. Communicate student teaching policies/procedures including expectations of partner schools to all stakeholders
  10. Collect, share, and analyze data with school partners for continuous improvement of programs
  11. Complete required state paperwork pertaining to Mentor Teachers (including Verification forms)
  12. Collaborate with school partners to evaluate the effectiveness of University Supervisors and Mentor Teachers
  13. Maintain all required state forms pertaining to student teaching
  14. Collaborate with appropriate entities to provide data for required reports
  15. Collaborate with the director, staff, and course instructors to ensure that candidates are given the support needed to successfully complete the edTPA (as applicable)
  16. Collaborate to design assessment instruments and distribute them to Education faculty
  17. Supervise the responsibilities of the Field Placement Coordinator
  18. Oversees transfer advisement during summer in the absence of faculty/director (if applicable)


Responsibilities Regarding Alternative Licensure Program

  • Communicate with potential Alternative Licensure candidates
  • Host informational sessions (online and/or in-person)
  • Assist with marketing efforts of the program
  • Prepare informational documents for school administrators
  • Provide program information to public, private, and charter schools
  • Recruit schools willing to consider interviewing/hiring candidates for 2-year teaching positions
  • Prepare and maintain Partnership Agreements (MOUs)
  • Assure Residency Program is in compliance with state requirements
  • Create and maintain documents for program candidates
  • Share updated job opportunities/job fair opportunities with candidates
  • Support candidates with job preparation resources
  • Support candidates with preparation toward successful performance as a teacher
  • Collaborate with faculty in the hiring of University Coordinators who will mentor candidates weekly
  • Provide University Coordinators with updated handbooks including candidate evaluation documents
  • Assist with program data for accreditation and audit purposes
  • Provide and maintain University Coordinator Assessment tools aligned to the Danielson Framework
  • Monitor and provide ongoing support for candidates, coordinators, and mentor teachers during Residency I & II

Administrative/Other Duties
  1. Meetings
    1. Education Division Staff Meetings
    2. Local and State level meetings (as applicable)
    3. School Councils (as applicable)
  • Staff supervision
    1. Oversee duties of Coordinator of Field Experience - direct report (time sheet, vacation, etc.)
    2. Conduct staff evaluations for direct reports
    3. Recruit, hire and oversee Education Department student workers and graduate assistants
  • Assist in the design and the implementation of new programs as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Education
    • Teaching license and teaching experience
    • 3+ years' experience in higher education and/or educational administration
    • P-12 administrative experience strongly preferred
