General Purpose of Job: The Supervisor will function in a lead clinical role at the Sparrow Wound and Hyperbaric Centers. Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Supervisor will be responsible for implementing and monitoring operational and clinical best practices to ensure optimal patient care. Ensures that quality professional and nonprofessional services are provided to patients at the level of care the patient requires; envisions the future for the department; fosters excellence; leads by influence; and develops Caregivers within the department. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Leads by example and establishes performance expectations for caregivers, providing regular feedback.
- Delegates and oversees wound care and hyperbaric services performed by RNs, LPNs and Technicians.
- Ensure staff demonstrates competency in core and center-specific clinical skills and that continuing education and certificates are maintained and up to date.
- Provides direct patient care and coordination of care for patients through assessment and team collaboration in evaluation, planning and implementing evidence-based wound care.
- Ensures appropriate compliance with Clinical Practice Pathways and initiates, modifies and affects unit-based changes in clinical practice to maximize patient outcomes.
- In conjunction with the Practice Manager, completes performance appraisals and staff development, utilizing performance improvement procedures as necessary, and ensures all staff complies with all center policies and procedures.
- Ensures completion in a timely manner of all billing and utilization requirements via EMR including registration, charge posting and supporting medical documentation notes.
- Adheres to all Joint Commission, patient safety initiatives and infection control regulations.
- Trained in hyperbaric medicine and provides hyperbaric chamber operations as needed and ensures maintenance is performed as required.
- Manages supply inventory, par levels, and orders supplies, and equipment as needed and/or oversees supply ordering if task is delegated.
- Ensures compliance with Hospital, State and Federal regulations in reference to patient care activities and physical environment.
- Communicates shared vision, mission, and values within department, which motivates others to achieve strategic goals.
- Creates a learning environment that is open and respectful and promotes the sharing of expertise to promotes the benefits of health outcomes.
- Supports and encourages shared accountability for professional practice.
- Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury.
- Promotes positive customer relations with physicians, patients, families, visitors and Caregivers.
- Assists with follow-up on concerns and provides feedback.
- Participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.
- Completes caregiver payroll operations as indicated.
- Works in conjunction with Practice Manager to ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling guidelines are met.
- Monitors caregiver performance, providing coaching, recognition, counseling and avenues for improvement as needed.
Job Requirements
Work Experience |
* Minimum of three years of current clinical nursing experience * Previous wound care experience * Previous manager or supervisor experience - preferred. * Experience with clinical practice budget and billing processes - preferred. |
Education |
* Associates Degree in Nursing * Bachelor's degree in nursing or health-related field; OR must obtain within two (2) years of hire. * Wound Care Certification (WCON/WCC) - preferred * Additional college coursework in business or management - preferred. |
