POSITION OVERVIEW

This role can be classified as either Environmental Specialist, Environmental Professional I or Environmental Professional II based on the candidate's education and experience. The associate is responsible for the implementation and control of those areas of the environmental, health, safety, and Responsible Care Management System to which the associate is assigned. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the areas of wastewater treatment, air emissions, solid waste, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, spill response, auditing, SARA, stormwater, environmental file maintenance, and training.

The work schedule for this role is Monday - Friday, 1st shift. Work outside hours and on-call.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for being knowledgeable of the regulations applicable to the Allen Plant and for staying abreast of state-of-the-art treatment and abatement technologies.
  • Responsible for supporting programs for the minimization and elimination of waste streams to all media (land, air, and water).
  • Responsible for being knowledgeable of Environmental SPI Manual, utilizing these SPI's, and reviewing them regularly.
  • Responsible for serving as backup for the Environmental Manager, including but not limited to reporting performance on the environmental, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care management system and for making recommendations for improving the system.
  • Ensure procedures are in place and implemented for the proper characterization, handling, and disposal of hazardous waste, non-hazardous chemical waste, and used oil. Maintain the disposal manifest records in the environmental files.
  • Be knowledgeable of BUC Wastewater Treatment and Permit Regulations.
  • Understand the Allen Plant BT Wastewater Treatment System and ensure its operation complies with all permits and regulations under which it is governed.
  • Be knowledgeable of all air permit requirements and ensure that procedures are in place to collect data to demonstrate permit compliance.
  • Assist with SARA reports and ensure they are submitted ahead of deadlines. Maintain these reports and the supporting documentation in the environmental files.
  • Assist in implementing procedures to comply with stormwater regulations and/or permits when these are issued by the regulatory agency.
  • Participate and respond to audits by Corporate Environmental, Internal, and/or outside auditors by developing and implementing corrective action procedures promptly.
  • Participate in the investigation and reporting of all major spills of significance.
  • Actively participate in plant safety program/process.
  • Responsible for handling all other duties as assigned by the Environmental Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Background in Environmental Regulations (RCRA, DOT, SWPPP, SPCC, WWT, SARA, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate and interact with multiple levels within an organization as well as outside vendors.

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing or chemical engineering in a process and/or project focused role.
  • RCRA and DOT Certifications
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
