Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Proposal Development Officer will advance sponsored funding by assisting the faculty in developing and preparing grant proposals, to include interpretation of sponsors' requirements and editing/refining drafts, with a special focus on communicating technical information, accurately and effectively, for a range of academic disciplines.
The Proposal Development Officer will review proposals for coherence, agreement with the University's program directions, and adherence to sponsor guidelines. She/he will also aggressively seek research funding opportunities for faculty and disseminate targeted opportunities in a timely manner to support faculty research programs, and will assist the development of grantsmanship programming. She/he will create and distribute special reports, studies, summaries and analyses, and maintain a current knowledge of grant funding policies, regulations and procedures. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Division of Research and Economic Development (
DORED) manages N.C. A&T's research enterprise.
DORED provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
The Office of Research Services and Project Management assists researchers by identifying funding opportunities, helping with proposal writing and budget preparation, promoting and facilitating development of collaborative proposals, and by providing proposal development resources and grantsmanship programming for faculty and grant administrators. |
Minimum Requirements |
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, writing, natural or physical sciences, or masters degree with the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired. Experience developing competitive grant proposals and analyzing solicitations, RFPs and RFQs.

* Ability to work under time pressure and manage multiple projects at once
* Self-directed and detail-oriented; excellent skills in time management and organization
* Strong interpersonal skills with primary focus on service
* Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic resources |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
Masters degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, writing, natural or physical sciences, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired. At least three years' experience developing competitive grant proposals and analyzing solicitations, RFPs and RFQs. |
