Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for
NJMS- Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, helps the principle investigator perform research activities. Performs common lab techniques and procedures as well as work on specific studies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Helps with ongoing lab activities and performs assays including western blotting, cell culture, DNA electroporation into animal and bacterial cells, plasmid preparations, immunohistochemistry, calcium uptake assays etc.
- Prepares reagents, solutions /buffers, gels, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must possess good organization and documentation skills and must demonstrate good communication skills in English.
- Experience in working with transgenic mouse colonies and basic molecular and cell biology techniques such as culturing mammalian cells, PCR, plasmid preparations, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot analysis are necessary.
- In addition, should able to do routine lab works including preparing culture medium and solutions.
- Must be able to quickly learn new techniques and work independently, with careful attention to detail.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
PHYSICAL
DEMANDS: This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of research instruments. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6 feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORK
ENVIRONMENT; Must be available to work flexible hours on short notice, including overtime and some weekends and holidays. Must be willing to work with radioactive materials |
