The Office of Information Technology (
OIT) is Rutgers' enterprise IT office.
OIT provides university wide services and support and collaborates with department and unit IT professionals on projects and initiatives for the Rutgers community. OIT's services and systems include the Rutgers network; email and calendaring systems; IDs/passwords and identity management; data centers; computer labs; help desk support; wireless connectivity; a software portal; information security, risk, and compliance services; research computing; and many others. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Data Analyst for the Office of Information Technology. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and userbase of Rutgers University's central installation of REDCap, and ensuring the creation of high-quality data collection tools that adhere to
GCP best practices.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Collaborates with other IT specialists, biostatisticians, project coordinators/managers, and REDCap users, contributing to various team projects involving custom programming, training, presentations, and research.
- Serves researchers from diverse domains including, but not limited to, clinical research, marine biology, education, social work, engineering, university administration, and library sciences. Our goal is to provide researchers with a user-friendly research database that does not require programming skills.
- Leads assistance across multiple schools and departments.
- Investigates, acquires and consolidates multiply REDCap data tracking protocols across the university into a centralized, unified resource for enhanced research support.
- Works closely with REDCap system administrators to develop and improve system architecture, optimizing performance and scalability.
- Serves as a consultant, providing basic to advanced level support for researchers requiring assistance with REDCap beyond regular user support (ie - integration of 3rd party add-ons, API integration, and REDCap app support).
- Collaborates with investigators to understand requirements and deliverables, offering consultation on REDCap project design, advanced logic and calculations, data migration, and cross-project dynamic data fields.
- Works with other REDCap specialists and Lead Administrator for more complex consultations.
- Helps to design, develop, and test REDCap projects to ensure successful data capture.
- Documents technical specifications and adhere to coding standards and development/validation practices.
- Collaborates with other Rutgers core teams, such as the Rutgers University Biostatistics & Epidemiology Services (RUBIES) and the Clinical and Research Data Warehouse (CRDW) teams.
- Provides custom training to end users of projects developed by REDCap Administrators.
- Addresses end user questions regarding REDCap functionality, from basic to advanced levels.
- Helps to troubleshoot issues related to the REDCap installation and implementation, providing support at different levels of complexity.
- Handles the transition and integration of REDCap research projects from multiple Rutgers REDCap instances into a single centralized resource for the entire Rutgers community.
- Processes support tickets through the University Service Now ticketing system, ensuring prompt resolution of issues.
- Documents common issues and maintain a knowledge base for users' reference.
- Identifies and reports bugs to the REDCap developers.
- Participates in the REDCap administrative consortium, contributing to the improvement of the system.
- Takes part in initiatives to enhance the team's education/training, process, and communication.
- Collaborates with direct manager to set professional goals for career development.
- Serves as a backup for other team members and functions as required.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor degree with 3 years of experience in Computer Science, Information Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Hands-on experience with end user support in an IT domain.
- Experience as a REDCap support specialist, programmer, or administrator, with a track record of designing projects in REDCap.
- Research experience, preferably in the clinical domain.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing the quality level of data, working directly with end users or customers.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, maintaining, and managing IT applications and systems in a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in running validation scripts and strong database design and debugging skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous experience and knowledge of academic healthcare systems and/or operational environments.
- Advanced degree (e.g. PhD, etc.).
- Experience with REDCap, including building projects, developing data dictionaries, implementing branching logic and calculations, creating reports, and running projects.
- Familiarity with statistics applications (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA).
- Knowledge and experience with PHP and Java.
- Experience with healthcare and/or clinical data, including knowledge of hospital operations and clinical procedures.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and/or Human Subjects regulations for clinical research.
- Familiarity with medical ontologies (e.g., ICD-9/10 and CPT codes).
- Experience in developing, maintaining, and managing IT applications and systems.
