Create surface designs that meet design objectives and contribute to achieving brand vision. Develop artwork derived from own as well as other surface designers' work for use across all product categories. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: Other duties may be assigned)

  • Create original artwork and style vintage/bought artwork to meet the design objectives and contributes to achieving brand vision
  • Transform artwork into dynamic layouts, re-color prints, create repeats and engineered artwork for textiles and other substrates including but not limited to PVC, PU, and leather
  • Collaborate with the design director each season to develop conceptual direction for the total artwork assortment
  • Collaborate with product design to create unique seasonal artwork that fits their silhouettes and the concept for each season
  • Work with product design, product development, and material development throughout the development process to ensure artwork meets vendor, costing, and execution requirements
  • Set up artwork tech packs for selected artwork related to produced CAD (size, colors, placement, repeat, etc) and submit to cross-functional partners paying critical attention to detail ensuring quality and consistency as it relates to each item and collection
  • Stay current on industry trends and artwork techniques
  • Maintain a high level of aesthetic judgement and effectively translate trends into artwork while cohesively creating an overall artwork collection
  • Review strike-offs and initial submits against artwork and comment on the surface design accuracy and execution
  • Maintain art/color records in PLM and visual line tool
  • Task Assistant/Associate Surface Designers, where appropriate, to complete projects on time and ensure their work meets objectives
  • Contribute positively to the design team dynamic by performing all tasks with a willing attitude, strong sense of urgency, and dedication to the company by creatively designing into the brand aesthetic
  • Other tasks as needed or assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school graduate. Bachelor's degree in textile design, graphic design, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years experience in designing, managing and manipulating surface designs on textiles
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated artistic ability to draw, sketch and illustrate
  • Advanced Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator required
  • Experience in the fashion industry strongly preferred
  • Creative eye for color
  • Superior score (>16) on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test
  • Knowledge of textile printing and surface design industry
  • Ability to create and think outside the box
  • Ability to create artwork specs
  • Good Mac and/or PC skills utilizing Microsoft Office software
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Strong team player
