Your Role at Baxter

Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicagoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter's culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success.

Baxter is currently investing in Extractables and Leachables, including the acquisition of State of the Art equipment (LC MS and HR GC MS) and method innovation. Supporting the structural elucidations of compounds to advance Baxter's database. As an intern you will get the experience of taking Mass Spec information and translating that into compound identifications.

What You'll be Doing

  • You will be a part of the Extractables and Leachables program. Extractables and Leachables is part of the overall chemical characterization process that is used to support toxicological assessment of risk. This program will aim to evolve practices for these advanced chemistry studies to reduce effort investment, while ensuring robustness of the generated results.
  • Perform wet chemical laboratories operations in a regulated lab.
  • Analyze samples on LC or GC MS.
  • Processing data to identify and catalog compound structure information.
  • Method innovation, validation and qualification.
  • Provide weekly updates outlining progress.

What You'll Bring

Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Rising Junior, Senior or Graduate student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science, or related major.
  • Experience with Mass Spectrometry.
  • Background in quantitative analysis desired.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical writing and data review in a regulated type environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative.
  • Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles.
