Essential Job Duties |
Primary Purpose of Position The Research Accounting Technician is responsible for executing and monitoring post-award financial transactions in the College of Sciences. This position provides comprehensive grant management accounting support to Principal Investigators (PIs) and involves:
- Initiating and reconciling financial transactions.
- Managing no-cost extensions and re-budgets.
- Preparing budget justifications, summer salaries, and salary releases.
- Navigating compliance issues in alignment with University, Federal Government, and Agency guidelines.
The Accounting Technician - Contracts and Grants Specialist is a key member of the administrative team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Research Administration. This role also collaborates directly with faculty to manage sponsored research projects effectively.
The ideal candidate will have experience in grants and research administration and a passion for working collaboratively with faculty in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. A service-oriented mindset, independence, and proactive reporting and project management skills are essential for supporting faculty through the complexities of research administration. |

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Knowledge of established governmental budgeting practices and procedures.
- Experience Managing and reconciling grant accounts.
- Knowledge of the following systems OR other grant management programs; PeopleSoft Financial system, PeopleSoft HR system, WOLF Reports, Labor Reports, Payroll Distribution Reports, PINS, RADAR, and the ePAR system.
- Microsoft Office (Word and Excel.)
- GoogleApps
- Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Office of Management, and Budget (OMB) Circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133
- Knowledge of Uniform Guidance (i.e. Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards)
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP) and University Spending guidelines
- Ability to interpret, apply, and explain policies and regulations of funding agencies.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and their application in regard to the management of grants.
- Experience with Excel to create and update spreadsheets and use of formulas to maintain accurate balances.
- Experience with PeopleSoft HR for Time & Labor functions, salary redistribution, summer salary, salary release, etc., or a comparable system.
- Experience with PeopleSoft Financial for WolfReports, or a comparable system.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous financial management experience and the ability to effectively manage budget and related financial matters
- Knowledge of University Spending guidelines and research administration (pre and post-award).
- Experience working with NIH and NSF-sponsored projects.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
- Proficiency in Smartsheets.
