About the Department
With over seventeen clinical services staffed by board certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the NC State Veterinary Hospital is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 30,000 patients are treated in the Veterinary Hospital. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, and expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from CVM, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties
The Procurement & Inventory Supervisor ensures the smooth operation of our hospital's supply chain, directly impacting the quality of care we provide to our animal patients. As the Procurement & Inventory Supervisor, you will be responsible for developing and administering purchasing, inventory management, and driving cost-saving initiatives through contracting policies and procedures for the hospital. With the hospital's continuous growth, there are ample opportunities for professional development and career advancement within our organization.
Key responsibilities include three functional areas, people engagement, procedural oversight and development and strategic planning. The list below outlines a few of these responsibilities but is not exhaustive.


  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of buyers, inventory, and warehousing specialists, overseeing recruitment, training, and performance.

  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to review and select new products.

  • Safety & Compliance: Implement safety procedures to minimize risk and ensure a safe working environment.

  • Oversee Purchasing & Inventory Operations: Develop and administer policies for purchasing, inventory management, and contracting.

  • Expense Management: Monitor expenses and negotiate rates with vendors to ensure cost-effectiveness.

  • Inventory Management: Manage all inventory and associated product codes within the hospital information system.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop financial and workforce strategies to meet the hospital's procurement and inventory needs.

  • Quality Assurance: Chair and organize the hospital Quality Assurance Committee to review product options and make informed decisions.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of supervisory experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Procurement Expertise: Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and procedures for procurement; experience in the use and functionality of procurement software; demonstrated experience recognizing and articulating risks, options, and ramifications of solicitations and agency agreements.

Communication & Collaboration: Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills; experience working collaboratively with individuals and groups from a wide variety of backgrounds and organization levels to incorporate their ideas, adapt to their needs, and form consensus in appropriate situations.

Customer Service & Relationship Building: Experience in customer service, building strong customer relationships, and delivering customer-centric solutions.

Process Optimization & Efficiency: Ability to optimize work processes to ensure that the work gets done effectively and efficiently; ability to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a hospital setting is highly desirable, providing familiarity with the unique demands and workflows of a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of Ezyvet or similar systems, demonstrating the ability to navigate and utilize procurement software effectively.
  • Previous leadership experience is preferred, showcasing the capability to guide and manage projects successfully.
