Job Description

The Director of Advancement for the College of Engineering serves as an advancement leader, major gifts officer, and integral team member in the College's advancement team. Reporting to the College's Executive Director of Advancement in the following areas:

Fundraising:

  • Work with alumni, corporations, foundations, and other key constituent prospects to solicit and close five and six- figure and above major gifts for the College of Engineering.
  • Using agreed upon metrics, advance the mission, vision, and short and long-term goals of the University and the College of Engineering.
  • Work closely with the Dean and Executive Director in the College to execute advancement and campaign priorities.

Effective Time Management and Communication:

  • Create and execute fund raising plans that utilize best practices in major giving including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donors.
  • In coordination with the Dean, the Executive Director for Advancement, and the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement office, develop and execute an annual operating plan with accountable monthly and quarterly monetary and activity goals.
  • Serve as a member of the University Advancement team and participate in prospect management and prospect strategy meetings.
  • Assist the College of Engineering Dean and Executive Director of Advancement to develop program funding priorities and related cases for support.

Professional Credibility:

  • Serve as an exemplary University and College advocate in the community, with local leaders, alumni organizations, business and corporate partners, and other leaders and key constituents.
  • Be active and involved in the advancement profession and faithfully represent Mizzou and the College of Engineering.

MU also moved up five spots, from No. 90 in 2020 to No. 85, among the Best Value Schools- a measure of colleges that offer the best value for students getting need-based financial aid. Additionally, the university climbed 13 spots to No. 86 among the Best Colleges for Veterans.

Mizzou Advancement emphasizes talent acquisition and professional development in service to its overall mission of enhancing private support of the University of Missouri. As a result, the division continues to attract top talent from around the country. Comprising 180 staff members with a presence across the United States and around the world, Mizzou Advancement announced the $1.3 billion Mizzou: Our Time to Lead campaign in October 2015. At its conclusion in 2020, it was the most successful philanthropic campaign in the university's history, at over $1.4 billion.

Shift

M-F 8am-5pm, various travel, and can include irregular working hours and extensive travel (40%-50%).

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of frontline fundraising experience in a higher education advancement setting.

Campaign planning/execution and major gift solicitations is preferred.

Exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000

Grade: GGS-012
