Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Health Informatics Scientist to join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Defense Intrepid Network reporting directly to the principle CMO. The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) is a DoD institute dedicated to providing cutting-edge evaluation, treatment, and research for service members dealing with complex interactions of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions. The incumbent will work alongside the Informatics group at the NICoE which maintains a large-scale informatics database with longitudinal data for hundreds of thousands of patients that have been diagnosed with mTBI. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities
- Responsible for defining, developing, executing and overseeing data governance for data requests, data warehousing, and information delivery solutions related to a specialized research project in repetitive brain injury in the military setting.
- Supports the CMO in conducting research and development of state-of-the-art data warehousing, and information delivery solutions.
- Collects data from clinical/research settings and programmatically prepare data for analysis, clean imperfect data, and visualize data outcomes using a variety of tools including data visualization (e.g., Tableau), programming languages (e.g., Python), and database languages (e.g., SQL).
- Ability to perform complex data analysis preferred, design, development, and testing activities in support of project reporting, and data analytics solutions across a wide range of operational functional areas. Knowledgeable with data sets and statistical capability.
- Provides operational support for new and existing BI and data warehouse components (g. Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, DB Visualizer and Teradata Studio).
- Assists with the design, development, and deployment of a specialized data warehouse and tools to support long term information delivery and data visualization needs.
- Performs data requests in support of clinical evaluation, research projects, etc. for wide range of business and operational functional areas by manipulating large datasets from multiple data systems.
- Builds and maintains existing Microsoft SSIS packages used for refreshing and reoccurring data requests. Maintains files for storage of research documents and familiarity with missing data.
- Contribute expertise to tasks requiring collaboration with project partners including, but not limited to, Walter Reed Army institute of Research, JTAPIC and the Institute for Defense Analysis.
- Generates and distributes reports as necessary. This includes batch reports run on daily, weekly, and monthly cycles, status reports as well as any special purpose ad hoc reports.
- Reconciles discrepancies with the guidance of a supervisor and obtain guidance when values are questionable or illegible.
- Interacts with clinical personnel to resolve omissions, discrepancies or any other data management issues. Generates, distributes, tracks, enters resolution, annotates and files data entry reconciliation reports and data clarifications. Verifies computer-generated output against original forms.
- Checks work for accuracy daily according to established procedures. Reports any system/data errors and/or problems to their supervisor.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, or related fields with equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with various databases. Proficiency in standard data analytics toolkits such as Tableau, Qlik, R, Python, Matlab, SQL, dashboards, data mining, and/or statistical modeling for predictive analytics.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team setting, and meet deadlines.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Military experience is a plus, specifically within a research setting focusing on TBI and blast exposure.
- Must be detail oriented; possess problem solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$140,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
