Your Role on the Team

Under general supervision, incumbents perform technical and/or supervisory duties in a laboratory.
Incumbents typically supervise the purchasing, receiving, storing, distribution and maintenance of laboratory equipment used by students, teaching assistants, faculty and/or staff personnel; supervise lower level Laboratory Assistants and/ or students in the laboratory; coordinate the physical preparation of laboratories and the scheduling of dates for experiments for a variety of teaching courses; and supervise the preparation and distribution of culture media, chemical solutions and other material for various class laboratories.
Technical assignments at this level typically require scientific knowledge and skills which might be expected from incumbents at the college "upper division" level or from incumbents who have acquired equivalent knowledge and skills through experience. The following examples are typical of technical assignments at this level: collection, classification and filing of scientific material; dissecting, assembling and mounting of skeletal and other body parts; preparation of charts, graphs and/or models involving experimental data; modification of media solutions; performance of microtechnique procedures including knowledge of staining, and the ability to distinguish between treated and untreated plant tissue; and performance of surgical procedures on animals without supervision.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Performance of microtechnique procedures including knowledge of staining
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Basic or high level computer skills
  • bachelors degree in scientific field
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience Previous laboratory experience

Preferred:

  • Experience with dissection of animals
