Mid-Level Environmental Data Validation Chemist

Overview:

FPM Remediations, Inc. is currently seeking to fill a Mid-Level Environmental Data Validation Chemist position. This will be a full-time in-office position at one of FPM Remediations' office locations in Oneida NY, St Petersburg FL, or San Antonio, TX.

The Environmental Data Validation Chemist will be responsible for evaluating and validating environmental laboratory analytical data for compliance with method and program/project QA/QC requirements. Reviews of laboratory-reported data will include various matrices (air, soil, water), a wide range of analytical methods (EPA SW-846, EPA Toxic Organics, etc.), and will follow EPA guidelines and procedures, as directed. Duties will include preparing written reports and editing data to incorporate validation qualifiers. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team of environmental scientists and engineers.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform critical review of laboratory analytical data packages, including a review of raw data, sample chromatograms, initial and continuing calibrations, quality control (QC) summary forms, preparation and extraction information, Chain-of-Custody records, laboratory Case Narratives, and qualitative and quantitative assessment of results.
  • Review environmental analytical data for completeness and compliance against analytical methods and quality assurance project plans (QAPPs).
  • Review QC samples and apply data validation qualifiers to sample results as appropriate.
  • Assist in soliciting bids from analytical laboratories to support projects, which will include preparing descriptions of work scope (e.g., quantities/types of analyses, QA/QC requirements, reporting formats) and distributing to candidate laboratories with requests for pricing.
  • Support development of Quality Assurance Project Plans for project sampling and analytical programs.
  • Support FPM's Data Management System, including entering data into various federal and state data management and validation systems [e.g. Environmental Resources Program Info Management System (ERPIMS), Environmental Quality Information System (EQuIS)]

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or higher in chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience performing analytical data validation and preparing data validation/usability reports for clients.
  • Laboratory experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis using CLP, SW-846 and other EPA methods is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of U.S. EPA data validation guidelines and environmental analytical methods.
  • Experience in non-routine analyses such as PFAS by EPA methods, explosives, or radionuclides is desirable.
  • Experience writing, reviewing, or implementing quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), sampling and analysis plans (SAPs), and related documents in accordance with EPA quality assurance requirements and guidance.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office: Word, Excel, and Access)
  • Familiarity with GIS software and applications is desirable.
