Job Description Summary

#TeamAAM is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our Metal Forming team in Fraser, Michigan!

The Quality Engineer ensures that products being built and processes being used adhere to all standards and requirements. They monitor engineering processes and products for adherence to company and regulatory standards and practices. They participate in quality-improvement initiatives and projects, and perform quality reviews and internal audits (evaluating data and writing reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. They also analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standarts and estabilish quality and reliability objectives of finished product. The Quality Engineer recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.

Job Description

  • Recommends quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
  • Researches statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error rate; determining levels of confidence.
  • Analyzes quality data from plant processes or customer indicators.
  • Provides feedback to customers based on quality projects (e.g., warranty, APQP, issues, etc.).
  • Leads quality investigations and problem solving.
  • Researches statistical reliability by using mean time before failure, Weibull 3-parameter distribution, reliability modeling, and reliability demonstration tests.
  • Develops quality improvement experiments by applying full and fractional factorial techniques.
  • Develops sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.
  • Maintains statistical process controls by applying demerit/unit, zone charting, X2 charts for distributions and individual-media/range for multi-stream processes.
  • Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests.
  • Prepares statistical information and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Contributes to quality engineering and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Adheres to all safety requirements and shows willingness to demonstrate Safety principles in daily job duties including weekly safety observation cards.
  • Shows attention to detail, maintains a productive attitude, and has willingness to take the extra steps needed to ensure the job is done correctly.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or Applied Science or equivalent work experience in Quality Engineering.

  • 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working in an automotive environment.

  • Formal training in FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA and SPC.

  • Knowledge of specifications and tolerances.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods and sampling techniques.

  • Strong knowledge of business-related computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others; including, but not limited to, all levels of management, associates, contractors and/or customers.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • High level of analytical ability to troubleshoot where problems are complex.

PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other related Applied Science.

  • Experience working in an union environment.

  • Prior Lean Kaizen manufacturing experience.

  • Operating knowledge of Plex system.

  • Training in calibration or calibration techniques.
